A flicker of disbelief flashed through Abigail's eyes. After a moment, she let out a cold, self-deprecating laugh. "So, the only thing that caught your attention was the bit about Lana."
I froze, stunned by her words. I had never thought that Abigail would say something like that to me.
I opened my mouth to explain, but she clearly had no intention of listening.
Her face hardened, her voice turning icy as she said, "Since you've figured it out, do exactly as you said. Remember this. I hate nothing more than being dragged into trouble.
"You asked for my help, and I agreed to your terms. So, you'd better behave yourself and follow my instructions to the letter. If you dare to go against me, don't blame me for being ruthless."
She finished speaking and shot me a look of utter disdain, as if she were seeing something foul.
I still remember how she used to look at me when we first got together. Her eyes were always filled with tenderness and love.
It was as if just being with me made her life the happiest and most wonderful time she could ever imagine.
But after we got married, everything changed.
Abigail's gaze soon filled with loathing and impatience, as if I were her mortal enemy, someone she utterly despised.
Even to this day, I can still recall the vows we made before the priest on our wedding day. A lifetime together, never to be parted.
Abigail did keep that vow. She would rather keep me trapped in this endless torment than allow us to separate.
I became the man everyone scorned, a parasite clinging to wealth and comfort.
The ridicule and insults never stopped, and I wasn't even given a chance to explain myself.
As I watched Abigail turn and leave, I rose to my feet, feeling desolate, and walked out of the house that once belonged to both of us.
She had agreed to my request, but we were irreparably broken.
