The Marriage She Turned into War novel Chapter 143

I put my things in the guest room, deciding not to share a room with Abigail. After all, that room hadn't belonged to me in a long time.

Since Abigail had said that she would come home and make me dinner, I deliberately didn't eat anything. I wanted to wait for her, afraid that if I ate and couldn't finish her cooking, it would upset her.

I waited until 1:30 am, but she still hadn't returned.

In the end, it was Martha who couldn't bear it any longer. She called Abigail and told her that I was still waiting.

Abigail called me right away, her voice gentle."I'm sorry. I'm busy with something and can't come home to be with you right now."

Her tone remained tender as she continued, "Get some rest. Your health isn't good, so don't stay up late. Be good."

With that, she hung up quickly.

The call took me back to the past. Whenever Abigail worked late, she used to call me, reminding me gently to take care of myself, eat well, and go to bed early.

Her tone was as if we were still in love, as if none of this mess had ever happened.

Sometimes, I wondered if Abigail had a split personality. How else could she shift her emotions so quickly?

But one thing was certain. She hadn't stayed away because she was busy. She had stayed away because Joshua was holding her back.

The moment before she hung up, I had heard Joshua's whiny voice in the background.

Recently, Abigail had been neglecting Joshua and spending more time with me. She had to have realized that she shouldn't ignore him. So, she had probably gone to him to make it up to him.

But whether she truly went to Joshua or if I was mistaken didn't matter anymore.
