The Marriage She Turned into War novel Chapter 154

Over the phone, Abigail's voice was seething with anger.

She roared, "Samuel, if you still didn't pick up your phone, I would've actually thought that you'd dropped dead at home! You begged me back then to help you find a doctor and promised to meet my terms. Now that it's settled, do you think you can just act however you want? Is that it?"

I listened calmly to her anger over the line and replied evenly, "My phone died, and I didn't have the chance to charge it. What's so urgent?"

Unexpectedly, my casual response only fueled her fury.

"You're my husband! Isn't it normal for me to call you? Why do you always respond like this? What exactly are you trying to do?" she demanded, her voice cold and accusatory.

Her sudden, inexplicable rage sent a chill straight to my heart. I should've known better than to expect anything from her.

"I've been at home for the past few days. If you'd bothered to come check, you'd know I haven't gone anywhere."

There was a brief silence on the other end. Abigail seemed to realize her words had been harsh.

After hesitating for a moment, she asked cautiously, "Are you really at home?"

"Yes." My tone remained calm. "If there's something urgent, I can come back right now."

Perhaps my tone was too calm. Abigail stopped yelling at me and said softly, "I see. Stay home and take good care of yourself. Your health isn't great, so be careful and don't make me worry."

With that, she hung up.

I listened to the busy tone on the phone for a long time without coming back to my senses.

I even doubted my own ears, wondering if I had just heard something wrong.

Did she just say she was worried about me?

What a world class lie!
