I didn't realize until then that my face was wet with tears.
I hurriedly wiped my face with my sleeve and forced a smile. "It's nothing really. It's just the wind."
Abigail didn't believe me. She tried to pull me outside, wanting to know what was going on with me.
At that moment, Lana suddenly ran up to me and hugged me tightly. She looked up at me and spoke in a sweet voice, which made her all the more adorable. "Samuel, don't be sad. I'll always stay by your side."
I was deeply moved. Laughing, I hugged her and nodded. With Lana comforting me, I finally felt like life had some meaning again.
I was determined to live bravely and take care of Lana. I would never waste the time I had left. I wanted to see Lana grow up healthy and happy.
With that thought, I hugged her tightly and gently smiled. "Lana, having you by my side makes me so happy. You have to stay healthy, okay? I want you to have a wonderful and happy future."
After spending some time playing with Lana, it was time for her to rest.
As we left the hospital room, Abigail suddenly looked at me seriously. Her tone was gentle as she said, "Samuel, how long has it been since you laughed so freely like today?"
Her words caught me off guard. If she hadn't asked, I probably wouldn't have given it much thought.
But my smile had nothing to do with Abigail. It was Lana who made me so happy.
I responded coolly, "Lana's recovery has been going so well. Of course, I'm happy about that."
I didn't say anything to please Abigail, and her eyes showed a hint of dissatisfaction. But I didn't want to waste any more time talking with her. Whatever her feelings were, they weren't my responsibility.
