The Marriage She Turned into War novel Chapter 281

I couldn't understand why Abigail didn't seem upset with me at all. But I didn't want to think about her motives either.

Lately, her words had left me feeling uneasy, and her actions filled me with a sense of helplessness. Sometimes, I found myself instinctively wanting to escape from her.

But I knew that if I didn't respond to her, her persistence would only grow. It would only make my headache worse.

I forced a faint smile and replied calmly, "Abigail, you're overthinking things. What could possibly be wrong? You're right. We're in this together. If there was something going on, I'd tell you right away. So, don't worry."

My response seemed to satisfy her.

Abigail smiled gently, her gaze soft as she replied in a warm voice, "That's more like it. I admit I've neglected you before, but now I want to make it up to you. Besides, it's time we have a child."

A child. Again with the talk of a child.

Lately, Abigail seemed to bring up the idea of having a baby at every opportunity, as if she wanted to use it to bind me to her.

But instead of drawing me closer, her words only made me recoil further. I couldn't even bring myself to look at her.

I knew too well what kind of life awaited a child raised in a loveless environment. What kind of painful, sad childhood would that be?

I didn't want my child to go through that. I just wanted a simple, peaceful life.

Besides, my time was running out.

Why would I bring a child into the world when I wouldn't even be around to give them a complete childhood? That would be irresponsible.
