Abigail had rarely spoken to me in that tone before. Whenever she saw me, she was either impatient, or she wouldn't acknowledge me.
Honestly, I had already gotten used to her treating me like that. So, seeing her acting coy with me now left me feeling somewhat unsettled.
I shifted uncomfortably and took a few steps back to create some distance between us.
However, Abigail wasn't willing to let go. She wrapped her arms tightly around me. Her eyes shone with tenderness as she gazed up at me with a sweet smile. "Samuel, stop it. If you're feeling down, I'll stay by your side. Don't be sad!"
I didn't know how to respond to her. Did she really not understand that she was the very reason I was feeling this way?
After all that had happened, just seeing Abigail had been enough to ruin my mood. I didn't even want to exchange a single word with her.
Yet, I wasn't sure if she was being deliberately oblivious or genuinely clueless. It always seemed like she had no idea that her presence was the cause of my inner turmoil.
I cast a glance at her. My voice was low and steady as I said, "Abigail, I understand you. Back then, I did do something wrong, but…"
I paused before continuing, "That was so long ago. You've been taking your revenge on me for years now. Don't you think it's enough? I won't stand in your way if you want to be with someone else. You have my blessing."
I had been as clear as I could be, but Abigail still refused to let me go. Her arms stayed firmly around me. Looking up at me, her gaze softened, and she spoke with a gentle tone. "Samuel, I won't leave you."
Of course.
Even after I had laid everything out plainly, Abigail still acted like she didn't understand. Her warm smile and tender gaze remained as if none of my words had reached her.
