The Marriage She Turned into War novel Chapter 301

Abigail stayed quiet for a long time before finally speaking, her voice trembling.

"Samuel, I'm not really…"

When she started, I braced myself, fully expecting an apology. But I didn't want to hear it.

I looked at her calmly and cut her off, "Abigail, you don't have to say anything else. Whatever happened before—it's in the past. Even if we manage to get along now, it'll never be like it was. That kind of love… It's gone.

"All I want is for us to live out the rest of this time peacefully with no more fights and no more drama. Can you give me that? That's all I'm asking for."

My words hung in the air, and Abigail's expression changed. She looked at me with a mix of emotions before nodding hesitantly.

"Okay, Samuel," she said softly. "I promise. There won't be a next time."

Her words caught me off guard. Abigail had never spoken to me like this before. Maybe it was a passing mood and just something fleeting. I couldn't let myself believe it.

I nodded faintly, keeping my tone even as I said, "Alright. I'm going to get ready for bed. Let's try to get some rest tonight."

With that, Abigail stood up and headed to the bathroom.

I stayed behind, silently clearing the table and stacking the dishes. Then, I went to the guest room and lay down, but my mind refused to settle. Images of Abigail meeting with Joshua earlier flashed through my head.

What had they done? Had she spoken to him with the same softness she had used with me? Were they as intimate behind closed doors as she had once pretended to be with me?

The thought twisted in my chest, cutting deeper the longer it lingered.

I hated that she could still affect me like this.

If all of this was an act, then she was far too convincing. If she was pretending, then her performance was flawless, drawing me in despite myself.
