The Marriage She Turned into War novel Chapter 64

Blair started the car immediately after I settled into the passenger seat. Noticing my low spirits, she kept checking on me, chatting and cracking little jokes to lift my mood.

I was touched by her thoughtfulness, and my impression of her changed. I used to see her as a distant person, but now I could tell she valued loyalty and friendship. She was someone truly worth knowing.

When we arrived at the gala entrance, I unexpectedly got a call from Uncle Zack.

"Sam, are you free right now? I'll come pick you up and bring a special gift." I was taken aback. Uncle Zack had mentioned a gift before, but I hadn't thought much of it. At this point in my life, I had no real desire for material things; I just wanted some peace.

But here he was bringing it up again.

I apologized, "Sorry, Uncle Zack. I'm here at the gala with Miss Blair, so it might be a bit before I can meet you."

"A gala?" He sounded a little surprised but chuckled warmly. "Well, as it happens, the gift I have for you is at the gala, too."

"What?" I was stunned—his gift had something to do with this event?

Emotion welled up in me, and I thanked him. "Thank you, Uncle Zack."
