One student remarked, “I really don’t think Hazel would lie about this.”

Another countered, “Still, Emily’s story makes sense too. Think about it–Emily’s brother is Elias, and Elias‘ best friend is Mr. Dean. If Elias is so close to Mr. Dean, he’d possibly treat Emily like family. Besides, Mr. Dean’s family runs a jewelry company. She could just ask Elias or Mr. Dean for one if she really wanted a diamond necklace. Do you really think she’d need to steal from Hazel?”
“That does make sense,” someone agreed.
Another student admitted, “I’m really torn now. If Emily’s telling the truth, then Hazel must be up to something shady. However, if Hazel’s story is true, then Emily would be the real thief.”
Sitting nearby, Samantha was growing increasingly frustrated. Who does this Hazel think she is, asking Emily to spy on Finley’s bid?
Hazel’s company seems to be using shady tactics to snag the lowest bid. I thought Noah was bad, but this is a whole new level.
So, Hazel pressures Emily to sneak a peek at Finley’s bid, and she accuses Emily of stealing a necklace when she refuses. Now, she wants to call the cops to force Emily into helping. It’s clear Hazel isn’t done and will keep pressing Emily until she complies.
Samantha mused, Hmm… I need to meet Hazel. If she’s trying to sabotage Finley’s bid, then it’s my business, too.
With a sarcastic look, Samantha turned to her classmates and asked, “Who exactly is Hazel?”
Her classmates glanced at her with a bit of scorn. “Hazel is the daughter of the Burton Group. She’s also a standout at Saint Night Academy–beautiful, talented, and from a wealthy family. You should see how many guys are after her.”
Samantha thought, Come on, I really don’t know. I usually don’t pay much attention to others, but I need to know if Hazel’s messing with Finley.
