“Is that how you got hurt?” Samantha asked, her voice filled with worry.
Finley nodded again. “Yeah. The guy slashed me with the knife, but I was so focused on finding you that I barely felt it. After I beat him up pretty badly, he lied and told me you were dead. I asked the woman on the ground, and she pointed me to the hole you crawled out of. So, I climbed as fast as I could… and here I
am.”
Well, the way he’s describing it…
Samantha stared at him, her heart swelling with emotion. She wrapped her arms around his neck and gently kissed the mask covering his face.
Finley’s brow furrowed in dissatisfaction. “Kissing my mask–is that your way of thanking me?”
She smiled shyly. “Yes.”
He scoffed playfully. “A kiss on the mask? What kind of thank you is that?”
Samantha blushed, feeling awkward for a moment before whispering, “Then… how do you want me to thank you?”
A teasing glint flashed in his eyes. “At the very least… like this.”
Finley pulled off his mask and leaned down, capturing her lips in a fierce kiss. Samantha, caught off guard by his intensity, struggled to keep up. As the kiss deepened, she found herself gasping for breath, her lips parting involuntarily–giving him the perfect opening to steal another breathless kiss.
“Mm…” Samantha whimpered, overwhelmed by the moment.
“Elain!”
The police arrived at the cave, leading a group of students, and found Elain lying on the ground, weak and barely conscious. Nearby, the murderer lay beaten within an inch of his life. One of the officers approached Elain, noting her frail state from the drugs, and asked, “Elain, are you alright?”
Elain nodded weakly, her strength nearly gone.
The officer signaled to the students, and they quickly helped her to her feet. As he scanned the area and didn’t see Samantha, he asked, “Where’s Samantha? Why isn’t she with you?”
“She escaped… through that cave over there.”
“She left you behind? Ran off on her own?”
Before Elain could explain, one of the students chimed in, “Of course, Samantha ditched her! How else could Elain have ended up here alone with the murderer? But wow, Elain, you’re pretty amazing to have taken him down all by yourself!”
Another student chimed in, shaking his head in disbelief. “Yeah, who knew a woman could handle this?
