Chapter 10
Cyra
I don’t know who this woman is or who she thinks she is, but she’s nothing more than an Alpha female, just like me and Piper. And she obviously sees Yorick holding my hand, so I know her blatant flirtation is meant to get a rise out of me, but Rina doesn’t care. She’s ready to rip her to shreds.
Yorick’s steel arm wraps around my waist before Rina can get to her. He pulls’our back against his chest, wrapping his other ridiculously strong arm across my chest before nuzzling my ear.
“You must be blind. I was having a great time until you showed up,” Yorick says to her, purring in my ear. “Now, why don’t you stop antagonizing my girl and you and your little entourage just move along.”
“Yeah, honey. Back home you might be something special, but around here, you’re pretty average,” Zach says to her.
“I guess we’ll see about that,” she huffs.
“We don’t need to see. Half of the elite are standing right here. Honestly, I’m not sure I feel all that special seeing as how my ‘competition‘ surrounds herself with people of lower rank so she can feel better about herself,” Piper adds.
“You don’t know anything about me,” the woman snarls.
“I know you’re a bitch who doesn’t like competition. That was obvious in how you curled your much too thin lips at me and my friend, how you totally ignored Landon because he’s not ranked even though he’s part of the twenty elite in this class, and you made a move on the only man here who is obviously with someone else. Now most likely you did that to try and get in my friend’s head in an attempt to get an advantage over her in the Academy. Or maybe you really are as dumb as you look and thought he’d drop her like a hot potato for you. Trust me when I say, he won’t,” Piper says.
Damn, I might have to kiss my new friend.
“I’m coming for you, bitch,” the woman growls, pointing at Piper.
“Oh, please do. You need to be knocked down a peg or two and it would make my day to the be the one to do it.
“Let’s go, Megan,” one of the guys says, taking her arm.
She scoffs at us, but turns around and strides away, her entourage following behind her.
“Put your claws away, baby,” Yorick whispers in my ear. I look down and realize they’re still out. He bites my ear, a gentle display of dominance to get Rina’s attention and compliance. My body shivers with the feel of his teeth on my ear, but he doesn’t let go until she puts her claws away. Then he presses a kiss to my neck before releasing me.
“You’re fun,” Landon says to Piper.
Piper shrugs, but he slings an arm over her shoulder.
“See, I told you. There’s no fault if it’s honesty. Everything you said was true,” I say.
“Yeah, especially about those lips being too thin and her being as dumb as she looks,” Zach says, grinning at Piper.
“Okay, I threw some insults in there, but you don’t blatantly flirt with a man who is holding hands with another woman. It’s just wrong, even if you don’t know that they are mates.”
“Agreed,” Yorick says, sliding his hand back into mine.
“Well, now I’m in a bad mood,” Piper says.
“Maybe you’re hangry, Hellfire. Let’s go get lunch,” Zach says.
“You and your nicknames,” I say, laughing.
“Hey, if the nickname fits, who am I to argue. Piper’s got that fiery red hair and a temper to match. I love the passion,” he says, winking at her.
“Stop flirting with me,” she says, shaking her head, but her lips are twitching.
“We definitely need to feed her,” Zach says over his shoulder at us.
“I can’t believe it’s already lunch time. Where has the day gone?” I ask.
“Time flies when you’re with the one you love,” Yorick says and now it’s my turn to shake my head.
After lunch, we separate from our friends with plans to meet up again for dinner. Yorick and I walk to our rooms, saying goodbye as our friends pass us on their way to their rooms.
“I’m not ready to part yet,” Yorick says. I get a flash of what he must have looked like as a little boy, pouting for what he wants.
“I thought we were going to go over our class schedule,” I say, not wanting to let him go yet either.
I’m rewarded with his sexy grin. “I’ll be back in thirty minutes. I’m going to shower, then get my schedule and some books. Maybe we can look through
them and see what’s in store for us.
Yorick and I spend the afternoon going through our schedule.
“I’ve never considered war an art,” I say, looking at the class titles Art of War.
“Oh, I really want to know what you’re thinking now,” he says.
