After dinner, Katelynn and Chase break off from us to go study. As we head to the library, we pass Megan, Helena, and Talek.
“Do the five of you ever go anywhere without the rest of your group?” Talek asks as if spending time with friends makes us pathetic.
“I don’t know. Do you ever get your head out of Megan’s ass long enough to sniff fresh air, or do you just like the smell of shit?” Zach asks making the rest of us chuckle.
“You’re so disgusting,” Helena says.
“How’s it going, gorgeous?” Megan the Menace purrs at Yorick.
“She’s not going to learn, is she?” I ask as Yorick ignores her.
“Who? What? Did I miss something?” he asks, smiling at me. “I get distracted sometimes by the beautiful woman standing next to me.”
“Damn, that was smooth,” Landon says.
“It might be if I didn’t mean it,” he says, still looking at me.
Damn this man knows how to make a woman fall in love with him. My own heart is long gone and that’s nothing compared to Rina. In my head, she’s rolling around on her back purring so loudly I’m surprised no one can hear her.
Because I can and yeah, partly because I’m sure Megan is still watching, I pull Yorick to a stop and press my body against his, sliding my arms round his neck before I kiss him with every bit of desire I possess for him.
He growls possessively, his arms wrapping around me, deepening the kiss. I hear an angry growl and feet stomping away, but I don’t stop kissing Yorick.
‘Yeah, try to remember that you’re still in public and we’re supposed to be meeting with someone. Someone who isn’t going to wait around if we’re late. She’s doing US the favor, remember,” Zach says.
“”Megan deserved that,” Piper says, as I pull away from the kiss.
“Goddess, if that’s your reaction, I hope she flirts with me all the time,” Yorick says, grinning at me.
I shake my head at him and take his hand. “Sorry, Piper’s right.Megan needed a lesson that just because something isn’t hers, it doesn’t mean she can try to steal it away.” I Say•
“See, I knew Aphrodite was the right name for you,” Zach says as we begin walking to the library again.
We walk in, waving at the woman who is standing guard at the front window like someone might decide to steal some books. Since Piper and Zach seem to know where they’re going, we follow them back to a secluded corner of the library. It’s darker back here but there’s a table set up and a young woman is there with a computer in front of her, typing away at lightening speed.
I’m not sure what I expected from someone with a nickname of Tracker, but she isn’t it. She’s beautiful with dark skin and a shock of curly brown hair. When she glances up, her brown eyes are intense and intelligent.
She doesn’t smile, but she looks all of us over, assessing us. When her eyes land on me, she sits back.
“You must be Cyra,” she says.
“Yes, that’s me,” I say.
” Then her eyes move to Yorick. “You must be the mate slash boyfriend.”
“That’s correct,” he says.
“Your family was easy to find. Your mother is all over the internet. She seems like an interesting woman,” Tracker says to Yorick.
“She is, incredibly intelligent as well.”
“So I noticed. It looks like your sister Kennedy is following in her footsteps,” she says, watching him closely. I feel him tense up beside me.
“Why are you looking into my family?”
“I never do work for anyone without doing a thorough background check. My work is too important and I’m not getting fired because I take someone at their word and they were just trying to use me to get what they couldn’t get themselves.”
“Well, I am using you to get what I can’t get myself,” I say to her, feeling protective of Yorick. “He has nothing to do with this.”
She raises an eyebrow at me. “He has everything to do with this. Isn’t he the reason you’re here at all?”
I open my mouth to deny it, but she’s right. Things wouldn’t have escalated so quickly if it weren’t for Yorick.
“By the way, your sister-in-law is having a boy and I would suggest you speak to your brother about adding security to his pack’s information. I’m not a hacker and I got in easily,” she says to Yorick.
“I’ll let him know. Is there anyone in particular you could recommend that I direct him to?” Yorick says.
Tracker gestures for us to sit and we do, with Yorick and I sitting across from her. She closes her laptop and folds her hands over top of it, leaning forward.
“Either Hacker or I can help him. I’m cheaper since I’m a year behind him in school, but I can get you his information too.”
“I’d appreciate it,” Yorick says.
Tracker turns back to me. “Your father’s pack wasn’t quite so easy to get into. I found the files that you want, but I had to push the project to Hacker. Normally, something simple like this would have been completed quickly and easily, but he’s having as much difficulty as I was.”
“How much is this going to cost me?” I ask. I have money, but I wasn’t expecting to have to spend a lot on something like this.
“These are feebies. First, I don’t appreciate men who think they rule the world and can make women do what they want. An alliance bond, especially one made for an underage she-wolf by her father for HIS benefit, pisses me off. That’s why my part is free. Hacker has been given a challenge, and this is giving him an opportunity to enhance his skills. This type of project is good because it’s focused. We know where to look and what we’re looking for. In the real world, we may not, so he’s willing to do this for free too because you’ve given him an opportunity to learn new things in a controlled environment.”
“So, what happens now?” Zach asks her.
“Once Hacker has something for you, I’ll set up a meet.
