Chapter 401
Serena rolled her eyes, not buying Arabella’s claim.
The servant nearby was also surprised. A girl her age not into celebs? But then again, Ms. Bella was not your average girl.
“Alright, enough chit–chat. Your midnight snacks are getting cold. Dig in.” Louisa didn’t touch the food, but she picked up a big shrimp.
David was touched. He reached for his bowl. “Mom, I haven’t been home in so long. You still remember what I like to eat.”
Before he could finish, he saw his mother peel the shrimp and put it in Arabella’s bowl.
“Bella, Mom knows you love seafood, eat up!” Louisa picked up another shrimp, peeled it and put it in Arabella’s bowl. “Tonight’s snacks are mainly seafood, also some barbeque you youngsters love. Mix and match, enjoy.”
She didn’t want to restrict her daughter with “healthy eating“. As long as her daughter was happy, everything was acceptable.
Arabella smiled slightly, “Thanks, Mom, it’s delicious.”
“If you like it, eat more. I can have the kitchen prepare it every day!” Only then did Louisa give Serena a shrimp.
Even though it was peeled, Serena was full of resentment: Always Arabella first, her second!
Did anyone ever consider her feelings? They promised to treat her like their own, all lies!!
Louisa picked up a skewer of salt and pepper shrimp. David thought his mother had finally remembered him. But the next second, he saw her put the shrimp in Arabella’s bowl.
“Bella, this smells really good. You should try it.”
David was being so blatantly ignored that even the servants couldn’t help but pity him. David’s status in the family was so low he was practically invisible.
After a while, David saw his mother pick up a squid, and he quickly reached for his bowl. “Mom, how did you know I like this?”
Before he could get excited, he saw the squid fall into Arabella’s bowl.
He couldn’t help but speak up, “Mom, I like squid too!”
“If you want it, why don’t you get it yourself?” Louisa looked at him, annoyed. “Is your hand broken? You should be thankful you’re not asked to care for your sister and now you’re being picky!”
Definitely his real mom.
Louisa continued to peel shrimp for Arabella. Seeing Arabella’s plate piled with shrimp, David thought she couldn’t finish them all and reached for one. But before his hand could touch the shrimp, Louisa slapped it away.
“This is for your sister! Can’t you peel your own?“.
After being away for so long, he felt his family status had dropped another level, and he was now at the bottom.
