Barely a few seconds after Evelyn slipped into the water, Tiffany's voice echoed from outside.
"Lucas? Is someone in there? Why'd you come out?"
Lucas replied calmly, "There's no one. Let's go."
Tiffany seemed to say something else, but their voices faded as they walked away.
Evelyn leaned on the edge of the hot spring pool, glancing toward the entrance before looking away. It seemed Lucas and Tiffany had planned to meet here. If she hadn't spontaneously decided to have a soak in the hot springs, they might've had a romantic evening together.
Evelyn mulled it over. Then, she pushed Lucas and Tiffany out of her mind. Her fingers absently traced the scar on her abdomen.
That year, Blake had gotten into trouble with company affairs and faced retaliation before he was locked up. After those events, she was hospitalized for over two weeks. Later, likely because of the injury, she was told it would be difficult for her to conceive.
Evelyn closed her eyes. She stayed there for a long time, not making a sound.
…
The next day, Justine showed up after packing her things, inviting Evelyn down for breakfast.
At the restaurant, Sebastian looked up and said, "Lucas and Tiffany left earlier. They didn't even eat."
Evelyn just let the words go over her head and placed an order for a flat white. The food at the resort was top-notch, and Evelyn quite enjoyed it.
After breakfast, the group was waiting for their ride when Jason approached from the lobby. Evelyn was surprised that Jason hadn't left with Lucas and the others.
"Mr. Holt," Sebastian said, acknowledging him as he neared.
Jason nodded. "I just wrapped up some business. Since we're here, why don't we head out together?"
Evelyn and Justine had no comment. Sebastian raised an eyebrow. "Sure, why not?"
