"What are you doing here?" Nathaniel asks seeing that Alexandra was not going to say a word. Feeling a bit sad calms his nerves, hoping for her to tell the truth since he had heard it and there was no need denying it anymore.
"What do you mean what I'm doing here?" Alexandra laughs, tensed.
"Why are you here?" Nathaniel glares at her, trying to suppress the anger burning inside of him.
"I came to watch the moon" she blurted without thinking it through, causing Nathaniel to raise his brow, looking at the midday sun that shines against her soft skin.
"You got some nerve, Alexandra"
"I… I mean by night falls"
"Alexandra!" He yells causing her to flinch
"Why are you yelling?"
"How dare you lie to me?"
"What are you talking about?"
"Are you going to play dumb with me?"
"Honestly I don't know what you are talking about Nathaniel, I only came here because the breeze in this wood is just so refreshing and is what calms my body"
"Didn't you say you came to watch the moon"
Realizing her story wasn't adding up any longer, Alexandra bites her lower lips, turning her face around, ashamed. She never wanted to hurt him let alone lie to him, all she wanted was to play this game Adam started and then end him once and for all.
She didn't expect him to drag Nathaniel into their fight since she hasn't told him anything about that part of her life and wasn't intending to. It wasn't a secret but that part of her life was a closed book and she didn't like talking about it for it reminded her of the naive girl she was once.
"Of course, I came to watch the moon but then, I…I…and I also came for a fresh breeze" she breathes in hating to be lying right to his face.
"Oh yea"
"Yes"
"So you are trying to tell me that you came all the way here just for breeze and watch the moon"
"Yes Nathaniel, why else will I come here?"
"What happened to sitting by the window and talking to the moon"
Alexandra's face lits up, she didn't think he would remember that part of her life. Although she never told him anything, Nathaniel figured it all out the moment he laid his eyes on her, he knew what sort of woman she was, and even though he calls her a girl just to piss her off, Nathaniel knew she was his woman and not some little girl who could easily be deceived.
Alexandra knew her grounds and that was one of the things Nathaniel admired about her.
"Is a big house so I… I have been feeling lonely"
"Lonely?" Nathaniel chuckles hating that she was making a fool of him. "You threw your family out of the house, you got used to sleeping alone, where is this loneliness coming from?"
"Okay fine, I just thought of walking around"
"In the woods?"
"Yes Nathaniel, what's with the questions?" Pissed off over his never-ending questions, Alexandra gazes into his eyes trying to search for something she isn't sure about.
"Why are you getting angry?"
"Because you are annoying me by asking questions"
"Let's see you are angry because you are guilty"
"What?" Alexandra's eyes widened and she wonders if he heard her.
This was the first time in so many years Alexandra was caught in a trap she couldn't get out of and had no clue what to do so as not to hurt the man standing before her who has been right by her side even when she doesn't deserve it.
"You can only be angry because you reek of guilt".
"Guilt" she chuckles trying to hide her shame "Why will be guilty? What am I guilty of?"
"Why don't you ask your conscience or perhaps you can ask yourself why you are all alone in the woods by this time of the day"
"What's wrong with that?"
"Ask yourself or perhaps we can go back to the council and ask your pack members. I'm certain they would have the best answers since you already have a mate yet you are asking for it"
As those words rolled out Nathaniel's lips, Alexandra stiffens, he was talking as though he heard yet she was sure if she should just tell him the truth and end it all. It will hurt her because she will lose to Adam and Olivia but at least she will have Nathaniel by her side.
"What did you just say?"
"You heard me damn right"
Glancing around as Nathaniel's cold gaze bore into her skin, she couldn't stand it any longer, his eyes could kill her and Alexandra didn't want to die by his hands. if anything she only wanted to do the one thing she could think of in situations like this.
"So tell me the truth Alexandra, what are you doing here?"
"I already told you the truth, what else do you want to hear?"
"I don't believe you"
"Well that's your fault"
"Alexandra!" He barks
"What? You know what, I'm not going to stand here and listen to this, I'm leaving" she tries to walk past him when he holds her arm slightly dragging her back.
"What the hell is wrong with you?"
"What is wrong with me? What the hell is wrong with you Alexandra?"
"I already told you what I know, what else do you want?"
"The truth! Is that so hard to get?"
"I swear to you Nathaniel that what I told you is the truth. I only came here to watch the moon at night and inhale the breeze"
Feeling his adrenaline rush up, Nathaniel clenches his jaw tightly, if Alexandra wasn't a woman and his mate, he wouldn't hesitate to beat her up for daring to lie to his face even when it was already obvious that she was trying to run away with Adam Hawthorn.
