The Rewritten Love: A Second Beginning (Madelyn) novel Chapter 593

The wind blew, and Zach caught a mix of Madelyn's natural scent and the sharp smell of alcohol.

With strong force, he pulled her up from the ground. As she stumbled, he quickly held onto her waist, feeling her warmth through her light dress.

Zach took the beer can from her hand and looked at it. He said in a deep, emotionless voice, "Just one can and you're this tipsy? You're still the same, making silly decisions."

"Why do you care? If you want beer, just ask. Why are you being so rude?" Madelyn's words were jumbled and her voice soft. She walked to a nearby set of steps and sat on a wooden chair at the top. She tucked her legs under her and rested her head on her knees. She didn't say anything else.

Under the streetlight, Zach stood close by, wearing dark everyday clothes. He looked tall next to her. "How long will you stay here? Don't you want to go home?"

Madelyn mumbled, "I don't have a home anymore. I wish my mom was still alive... She'd look after me."

Zach sat with her for a while, showing a rare moment of patience. Madelyn finished the remaining beer, getting even more muddled.

Soon, it was almost 11 o'clock. The area near the park's lake was empty and quiet.

Zach carried her to the passenger seat of his car. Drunk Madelyn was always calm and never acted out; even completely intoxicated, she would just sleep.

Even though Madelyn had always been a headstrong person, deep down, she never wanted to be a burden. This was the first time she had ever gotten blackout drunk outside.

As Zach was moving away, Madelyn's hand reached out, grabbing his sleeve. Her face was flushed from the drinks, her eyes half-closed but trying to focus. "Mister, can you take me home? I live in Southern Haven Villas in Ventropolis. It's the twelfth house on the left. Don't forget. I'll pay you for the ride."

Zach gently brushed aside the strand of hair stuck to her lips, "What if I don't want your money? What else can you give?"

Madelyn, clearly puzzled, said, "I can give you anything you ask for. But apart from money, I'm not sure what I have to offer." She lay quietly, looking innocent.

Zach's voice deepened, "How can you say you have nothing?" He slid into the passenger seat and leaned it back.
