Jax was not sure why everyone was reacting like that.
He merely hoped that Luca wouldn’t find night patrols to be tiring; after all, this was part of what academy mercenary members usually did.
Yes, night patrols.
Xavier used that excuse when someone asked. It was under the guise of showing Luca what it actually meant to take odd jobs for the military.
Then, just how did it turn into something mortifying again?
When would he be cleared of all these mounting charges against him?
At this rate? Never.
So, why bother?
It was a scathing realization, but with a peaceful mind full of acceptance and surrender, Xavier decided to ignore all the stares and just wait for a meal that almost didn’t come.
This time, Luca was hell-bent on cooking for the people of the duchy and almost forgot about his other charges until they came running in.
It was that glorious Crispy Fried Chicken meal they had the last time, but this time, Luca was generous enough to buy a few sauces from the Trove.
And for the little penny-pincher, nothing could possibly hurt more than spending his precious CP.
But this was his way of showing his sincerity, and he sure wanted to get the thought across.
Because aside from solving the Duke’s medical problem, all Luca could do was give them the best he had to offer. But even this would have to wait until it was deemed safe.
However, Luca didn’t realize how excited his buddies were when they noticed the upgrade in what was already the best meal they’d tasted to date.
So, the diligent cook was surprised to see his friends’ expressions when they realized that he was packing the food into shipping containers.
All of it.
Ollie, who was still on the floor, finally had to ask where Luca was planning on sending all those delectable goods.
"It’s for my Father and the people of the Duchy." When the other realized where the food was going to go, they were momentarily envious until Kyle asked whether that would be safe.
Luca thought about the same thing but realized that he would have to come clean sooner or later because he had implicated the House in this.
It was a tough decision, but in the end, the currently filial son decided to prepare some fruits, the fried chicken dish, and a few low-grade Guiding Pills.
At first, he wanted to send everything, including the spiritual water, but worried that it might be dangerous for both him and his Father.
So, instead of sending it all in one go, he hoped to get the Duke to a more stable condition so that they could meet in person.
His sins had to be confessed properly, and Luca could only hope that he wouldn’t experience a re-do of his past life. He said this silent prayer almost daily and even more fervently now that he was starting to experience the joys of life.
He hoped that things could stay like this for as long as possible.
But for that to happen, maybe he should consider cooking some for the people who suddenly wilted in place after realizing that the food wasn’t for them.
Meanwhile, a certain father was actually preparing to re-enter society for his only son.
While it was a long shot, they needed to prepare as early as now to be able to catch up with everything they’ve let go of these past few years.
While the duchy had money, it lacked the same influence it had before after its core figure decided to seclude himself in the name of getting better.
But everyone knew what it meant.
Because there was really no getting better from the spiritual power imbalance, and all they could do was to just wait it out for as long as possible.
