Sure enough, Xavier was one as the wolfish man didn’t even let him get far.
As Luca tried to wriggle away, the prince calmly pulled him back in, his arms looping around his waist with ease. He kept his voice low, soft with just a hint of teasing.
"Before you escape, would you like to use a healing pill?"
Luca blinked, frozen in place.
Xavier continued, his thumb brushing faint circles along Luca’s hip. "I used a bit of ointment on you earlier, but I didn’t want to make decisions without asking. Your pills are stronger, and they would likely help with any aches, but it’s your body. And honestly...I thought it might be better to check first if anything else felt wrong when you woke up, so we’d know for next time."
Luca blinked again. Blushing harder as he heard the words "next time."
"Oh."
"And," Xavier added, more serious now, "I also didn’t want to just hand you a pill and pretend this wasn’t a lot for your body. You should know what could happen. That’s only fair."
Luca opened his mouth, probably to say something smart, but instead just...closed it. Because he had asked for it, specifically requesting everything, and the man holding him had actually warned him about what could happen. So, who could he really blame?
Wasn’t it the one who kept on saying, "again?" Lamented the same man who said it over and over.
Xavier noticed the changes in his expression and offered a glass of water, along with the small pill resting in his palm.
Luca took it without a word, cheeks burning.
Honestly, Xavier hadn’t expected much considering how shy Luca usually was. A nod, maybe. Silence, probably. But not—
"My thighs ache," Luca said suddenly, voice barely above a whisper. "My legs are...tired. My back feels like it’s missing. And my..."
He trailed off.
Xavier tilted his head, waiting.
"My behind doesn’t feel that bad?" Luca finished, confused at himself.
"I’m sorry," he said gently. "As for your behind, that’s where I used ointment on. Just to help with the swelling."
"..."
"..."
"Do you regret it now?" The worried husband really wanted to heal him immediately. But he didn’t want Luca to underestimate how taxing it could be, and so he figured he’d deserve whatever answer he’d give.
Meanwhile, Luca thought the question was something that anyone should ask, especially if they were trying to determine if they were masochists in the making.
Because, for some reason, it seems like he was. And he was somehow discovering something about himself in the process.
Luca flushed to his ears, but he still met Xavier’s gaze before answering what he thought was really the most reasonable response, "No. But I’m going to start exercising more."
There was a beat of silence.
"..."
Then Xavier burst out laughing. Proper, belly-deep laughter. The kind he rarely ever let loose.
"???"
But before Luca could bury himself in the sheets again, the laughing prince leaned down and kissed him.
Their kiss started soft, but not for long.
Xavier leaned in with a glint in his eye, and Luca, who was too stunned to say anything, received it before that teasing mouth turned mischievous. Their lips touched, parted, then touched again with a firmer press. A subtle nibble. A playful flick of the tongue.
Luca let out a soft squeak. This was the kind of kiss that made him cling to the sheets, wondering if there was going to be something more.
They stared at each other for a beat.
Luca’s lips were still tingling, his heart racing. He was about to say something—something about how they’d have to wait a bit for the pill to work—when Xavier’s terminal beeped.
Not just any beep.
The high-priority kind. One that Kyle wouldn’t send unless it was something that needed his actual attention.
Xavier sighed through his nose as he looked at it, his face shifting into that sharp, calculating expression Luca barely saw for himself.
He didn’t really want to leave. Who would when he had Luca right here? But after scanning the message, Xavier’s brow furrowed. "There’s a situation. Nothing too serious, but it’s flagged under direct response. It seems like I’d have to go in person."
Poof!
Ho-how could he even say it like that?! He thought, deciding that facing Xavier was going to require fast-acting heart pills, it seems.
