Sophie just wanted to casually hand over some money to get rid of Eliza. However, Eliza merely looked at her with a smirk, her eyes filled with mockery. “What you think is insignificant might be incredibly important to others. If it weren’t for you stealing-”
“Fine, I’ll give it back,” Sophie interrupted, her voice rising in agitation, drawing puzzled glances from the people around her. Her cheeks were flushed, whether from anger or embarrassment, it was hard to tell.
Sophie glared at Eliza before reluctantly speaking. “Those coins aren’t with me. They’re just some dirty things. I wouldn’t even touch them. I threw them into the filthy ditch behind his house long ago. If you really want them, go dig through that stinking ditch yourself.”
“Sophie’s just asking for a beating,” Diana thought, her fist clenching.
‘If I had my whip with me right now, I’d thrash that shameless bastard child until she couldn’t stand. She stole Dylan’s money. We all thought she spent it, but she threw it away because she was disgusted by it.‘ She shook her head as she wondered, ‘She really needs to be taught a lesson.‘
Eliza glanced at Sophie coldly and then said nothing more. Instead, she subtly gestured to Renee, who was standing beside her.
Renee stepped forward with a tray covered in a cloth. “This is the first gift from Your Grace to Mrs. Nevill. Mrs. Nevill, please open it yourself.”
‘Open it myself? Something’s off, Sophie thought, narrowing her eyes as she warily watched Eliza.
“Scared to open it?” Eliza asked with a faint smile, her tone lightly taunting.
Sophie snorted coldly. “Why would I be scared? Your Grace, this is a gift from you. You wouldn’t dare poison it in front of all these people, would you?”
‘Yeah, Eliza wouldn’t have the guts to do something like that with everyone watching, Sophie thought to herself.
So she reached out and lifted the cloth. But as soon as she saw what was on the tray, Sophie’s eyes widened in horror. She stumbled backward, crashing into the table behind her.
Clatter! The items on the table were knocked over by Sophie’s sudden movement.
“What’s going on?”
“What’s in the tray? Why is Mrs. Nevill reacting like that?”
“It’s just three flowers. They look a bit wilted, but there doesn’t seem to be anything else wrong with them, right?”
It was more than just a bit wilted. The three flowers on the tray had been freshly dug up from the ground. They were a messy bundle, with leaves falling off, petals damaged, and stems broken. It was clear they were on the verge of dying. Eliza had actually presented three nearly dead flowers as a gift. Everyone was curious about what she was up to. The guests exchanged puzzled glances and remained silent.
Adeline had been hoping to use the gift Eliza brought to add some glory to the Marquis’s estate. But upon seeing the withered flowers, she immediately frowned and looked displeased. “Why bring a bunch of dead flowers? This is my son’s wedding. What value do these things have?”
Adeline felt it was extremely inauspicious.
“I don’t have many valuable possessions to offer. I can only give something that might help Mrs. Nevill with her troubles,” Eliza said.
“What kind of troubles can three dead flowers solve? Are you trying to deceive me?” Adeline was even more upset, thinking Eliza was making a fool of her.
Eliza raised an eyebrow slightly and shifted her gaze back to Sophie. “Then we should ask Mrs. Nevill if she still needs them. After all, I heard that Mrs. Nevill accidentally gave three poisonous flowers to Lord Benedict, nearly causing his death by poisoning.”
The guests around them immediately widened their eyes in disbelief and stared at Sophie.
‘So Lord Benedict wasn’t nearly dying from illness before. He was nearly poisoned to death, someone exclaimed inwardly in
shock.
‘Mrs. Nevill is just ruthless, daring to poison he Successfully unlocked!. Although Eliza had said it was an accident,
everyone present could guess the real truth.
Eliza wasn’t done yet. “I heard that although Lord Benedict was temporarily saved, the antidote still hasn’t been found. Even the three poisonous flowers were stolen, so Lord Benedict’s life is still hanging by a thread.
“After all, the Duke’s estate is the place where I lived before I chose to become a nun. Lord Benedict was my elder brother

back then. No matter what, I should do something to help.”
She continued, “After I heard that Lord Mowbay had sent people to search everywhere for the antidote and the missing poisonous flowers, I personally looked into it. I didn’t find the antidote, but I was fortunate enough to locate the stolen flowers. So, Mrs. Nevill, I brought them here as a gift for you, so you can take them back and make amends for your
mistake.”
Sophie’s face turned from scarlet to pale. Not just the guests around her, but even Adeline and Dale looked at Sophie with strange and sharp expressions after hearing this.
Caleb was at a loss for words. He opened his mouth several times, seemingly unable to believe that Sophie could have made such a huge mistake.
‘Sophie sent three poisonous flowers and almost killed Benedict? This is just too absurd, Caleb thought. Of course, only Caleb found it absurd.
The smarter ones had already discerned the hidden truths about the recent upheavals at the Duke’s estate, cleverly disguised in Eliza’s words.
No wonder Sophie’s status as an adopted daughter was suddenly revoked. No wonder the Duke of Mowbay had abruptly decided to marry Sophie that day. There was such a sordid secret behind it all.
For a moment, the minds of all the guests at the wedding were in turmoil. No one would have thought that coming to the Marquis’s estate for a simple wedding would lead to uncovering such a dramatic scandal from the Duke’s estate.
‘Now that we know all this, will Lord Mowbay really not come after us?‘ they wondered.
“You’re talking nonsense.” Sophie was so angry she could barely speak. Her eyes turned red, and her gaze was filled with murderous intent.
She took a sudden step toward Eliza, but the next second, she was blocked by the tray holding the three poisonous flowers. Renee watched Sophie warily. “Mrs. Nevill, this gift was thoughtfully prepared for you by Your Grace. Are you really not going to accept it?”
“Get the f-” Sophie’s words were cut off as she was yanked back forcefully from behind.
Adeline grabbed her wrist tightly, glared at her viciously, and whispered menacingly, “Try to cause a scene today, and see what happens.”
