It wasn’t until they were inside that Caleb finally noticed the looks Matthew and the others were giving him. He was taken aback “Matthew, Anthony, what are you guys looking at me like that for?” It was really uncomfortable.

Caleb was oblivious to his own insensitivity and spoke his mind without a care.

Upon hearing this, Gabriel glanced at Caleb with disdain and said to Matthew and Anthony, “Go and have the servants prepare lunch. Must I do it myself?”

Matthew’s face turned dark with frustration. “Can’t the servants handle it?” He still had to keep an eye on Caleb and also check with Sophie to see if she had been mistreated by him.

Anthony also spoke up. “Father, my leg is not very convenient, so I won’t go.”

It should be mentioned that Caleb was the one who had caused Anthony’s lower body to become disabled.

When Caleb had come to the Duke’s estate with a broken hairpin, asking Sophie to marry him, Anthony had been so angry that he almost died. Although he was saved, he ended up being paralyzed from the waist down.

Gabriel’s attitude toward his two useless sons was much worse than his attitude toward his eldest son, Benedict. Recently, Matthew and Anthony had already sensed their father’s favoritism. As a result, the atmosphere in the Duke’s estate had become extremely terrible since Sophie’s marriage.

In just a few days, Matthew and Anthony had taken turns to argue with Gabriel several times. The outcomes of these arguments left them feeling even more disheartened, especially Matthew.

Unable to stay outside, Matthew had to return home, which only made their father think even less of him. Gabriel no longer sent him out to do anything.

Matthew should have been happy. But now in the Duke’s estate, Benedict was taking over the family business, Anthony was managing the medicinal fields, and Matthew was left with nothing to do. It was as if he had been completely abandoned.

So part of the reason Matthew didn’t want to leave was that he wanted to stay in front of his father to fight for opportunities. However, unfortunately, Gabriel no longer wanted to see him. Matthew had to leave, and even Anthony couldn’t stay.

So he stood up. “Father, you can chat with Caleb and the others. I’ll go check on Matthew and Anthony.”
