Already unsteady on his feet, Caleb watched in terror as Matthew approached him with the proson he maypend basart in fear “Don’t come closer”

“Do you still remember you’re Sophie’s husband Matthew stood in front of Cal booking at him coldly As Sophiees husband, you should be accompanying her on visits. What are you doing here instead of being with Sophie
Caleb felt his thoughts were exposed, and his heart raced with panic. Twas just taking a walk, he muttened his eyes darting around
Matthew and Anthony saw through his le instantly. They had known about Caleb’s disgusting mentions from the beginning. They didn’t expect that even after marrying Sophie Caleb still had designs on Bla
*Just taking a walk? Matthew laughed angrily He raised his hand, holding the wall and suddenly sung a punch at Cale face without mercy
The punch nearly knocked Caleb’s jaw off. He fell to the ground, tumbling comically
“Ah, please stop. I know I’m wrong, Matthew. I really know I’m wrong. I won’t come here again” Cales begged
Caleb was beaten by Matthew, already bruised and with a broken leg and now Matthew was hitting him again. Every part of his body ached.
Caleb regretted coming to the Duke’s estate. If he’d known coming back with Sophie would turn into this nightmare the would’ve stayed far, far away. “Cousins? Uncles? They’re all madmen. I never come to the Duke’s estate agan, he fought Anthony had vented his anger, and Matthew wanted to as well. After he finished Caleb was lying on the ground, half–dead Matthew opened the vial, grabbed Caleb’s chin, and was about to force the poison into his mouth.
Caleb struggled desperately but he was no match for Matthew with his injuries. As the vial of poison neared his los, a shout stopped them. “Stop! What are you doing?”
It wasn’t Gabriel or Sophie who came, but Benedict, carrying a bouquet of roses to Eliza’s courtyard. He had come to drop off a few roses for Eliza and witnessed Anthony attacking Caleb.
“Benedict? What are you doing here?” Matthew and Anthony were surprised by Benedict’s sudden appearance.
Caleb seized the opportunity to cry out, “Benedict, save me. They’re trying to poison me, to kill me.”
Benedict’s face showed shock. He rushed forward and snatched the vial from Matthew’s hand, smashing it on the ground just as Matthew had done before. This time, the vial contained real, bubbling, corrosive poison.
Benedict said, ‘Are you mad? Why are you trying to kill Caleb? He’s Aunt Adeline’s child, Sophie’s husband. If you kill him, what will happen to Adeline and Sophie?
“Moreover, if he dies, both of you will have to pay with your lives, and even the entire Duke’s estate will be implicated.” Benedict couldn’t believe that Matthew and Anthony would be so bold as to kill someone in their home, especially Caleb. Matthew tried to explain, “We’re not trying to kill him. Just make him keep quiet and ensure he doesn’t bully Sophie when he goes back.”
Benedict found this even more absurd. He knew Matthew and Anthony doted on Sophile, but he didn’t expect them to go to such extremes for her sake.
Caleb was the only child of Adeline and Dale. Gabriel’s breaking of Caleb’s leg had already caused a rift between the Duke’s estate and the Marquis’s estate.
Had it not been for Sophie’s scheming and Caleb’s genuine affection for her, insisting on marrying her despite everything. she, a bastard child, wouldn’t have been worthy of marrying into the Marquis’s estate in the first place.
Caleb had treated Sophie with kindness and consideration. Yet Matthew and Anthony seemed to think that Caleb bullied Sophie
Caleb clung to Benedict’s leg and wept uncontrollably. “No, Benedict, it’s not true. They really want to kill me. I’ve been so good to Sophie, but they just think I’ll bully her. That’s why they want to kill me.”
Caleb truly regretted everything. Sophie? Eliza? If I’m going to be poisoned to death because of them, I’d rather not marry either of them at all; he wondered.
Caleb was the rightful heir to the Marquis’s estate, and many women would have been eager to marry him.
Yet here he was, marrying a bastard child, giving Sophie a high status, showering her with expensive wedding gifts, and constantly defending her in front of his mother and father.
