497.Chapter 497
Eliza closed her eyes briefly at these words. If Caleb ever met an untimely end, it would surely be because of tas own stupidity
Caleb froze in place, his quilt written all over his face. Cateb froze in place, quit written all over his face. That unguarded expression betrayed him instantly
Matthew and Anthony, who had been silent until now, suddenly sprang into action, their voices filled with fury
“That’s right. He was caught by Anthony sneaking over to Eliza’s courtyard Matthew exclaimed
“And even though he just married Sophie, he still had those shady, inappropriate thoughts Anthony was so furious that he had his legs broken,” he added sharply
“Back then, Caleb admitted it himself. I even tried to talk him out of it, but he wouldn’t beter instead, he provoked me with his inappropriate words. I was worried those words would cause big trouble for both the Duke’s estate and the Marques’s estate, so I had no choice but to consider poisoning him to prevent future disaster said Antony
Anthony spoke with a helpless expression, as if he had been forced into a corner. He looked as though poisoning Caleb was truly his last resort.
Caleb, on the other hand, was nearly driven mad with rage. “You’re lying through your teeth, Anthony. When did you ever try to stop me? And inappropriate words? Not at all. Admit it. You just can’t stand that Sophie chose me over you?
Anthony, in stark contrast, remained eerily calm, a far cry from his frenzied state the day before.
He glanced at Caleb, who was now on the verge of losing control, and sighed, “Caleb, why won’t you admit it even now?! kept quiet before because I didn’t want to tarnish the reputation of both estates. But you insist on denying it. Do you really want me to repeat the words you said yesterday in front of everyone?”
Before Caleb could respond, Dale fixed his gaze on Anthony, his expression dark. “I would very much like to hear what my son supposedly said in your Duke’s estate that was so outrageous it could affect both our families.”
Matthew quickly shot Anthony a discreet look, unnoticed by the others.
Anthony ignored him, his gaze briefly passing over Sophie before settling on Eliza.
Upon looking at Eliza, whose status now surpassed that of the entire Duke’s estate, Anthony’s heart filled with cold amusement.
Finally, he spoke slowly, “Since that’s the case, let me share what Caleb said with everyone here. But please, don’t take it too seriously, I believe Caleb didn’t mean it.”
“Cut the crap.” Adeline, for once, seemed to have a shred of sense. She didn’t need to think twice to know that whatever Anthony was about to say would undoubtedly be a pack of lies, all aimed at smearing her Caleb.
“As
your aunt, let me give you some advice. You may have lost the use of your legs, but at least you still have your life. If you’re so eager to throw it away by spouting nonsense, don’t come crying to me when it backfires. So, I suggest you think long and hard before you open your mouth,” she said.
