“Keep the Pack members that are here in the kitchen, we might need them for support.” Stuart and Francis both nod at me before jogging off towards the kitchen. “You sure you want to come out with me Angel?” Eva nods at me, I’m not so sure but she seems determined as she jumps off the bed and clasps my hand. I look at Selena but she just shrugs her shoulders. I don’t want to put Eva under any unneeded stress after what Selena just found on the scan. I wish we had more time to process the information but life seems determined to keep kicking me in the balls.
“Shall we?” I nod at Rowan as he starts walking out of the office which is looking more and more like a medical room. Clasping Eva’s small. hand in mine I guide her from the room, I can feel how nervous she is, her hand is sweaty in mine so I just grip it tighter. The three of us walk towards the front door in silence, I don’t know about the others but I keep running through all the worst case scenarios in my head. All I keep coming back to is that even The Elder’s aren’t cruel enough to kill a pregnant Luna.”
Rowan opens the front door and the three of us step out onto the front porch just in time to see Elder Iris step out of her car. She looks just like she did when she was last here, she’s still wearing her long billowing red cloak, her small glasses are resting on the tip of her nose and her wiry grey hair is back in a tight bun. The shifter assisting her from the car is wearing a full black suit, complete with polished black shoes and sunglasses. As he closes the door he steps to the side and puts his arms behind his back looking like he’s scanning the area for

danger.
“Elder Iris.” I say in a welcoming tone as Eva grips my hand tighter, I feel her step closer to me as Elder Iris looks from me to her.
“Alpha Castiel,” Elder Iris nods at me before walking towards us. “Beta Rowan, Miss Smith.” A small growl leaves my mouth at her disrespect, coming into our Pack and not calling Eva Luna is the biggest
disrespect she could show.
“Luna, Luna Eva.” Rowan growls at Elder Iris, apparently he and his wolf didn’t miss the disrespect either.
“Hm, if you say so. Anywhere we can speak privately?” Elder Iris looks at me, she hasn’t even glanced at Eva the whole time she’s stood in front of us. I’ve seen her nostrils flare so I know she’s picked up on the pregnancy.
“My office.” I say with my jaw clenched, “your muscle can stay here considering he didn’t ask permission to enter my Pack land.” I look at the shifter standing with his arms behind his back, he doesn’t even acknowledge that I’ve spoken about him, he just keeps scanning the area from behind his sunglasses.
“Very well.” Elder Iris walks up the steps as I turn around and nudge Eva to walk ahead of us. I don’t want her walking next to Elder Iris until I know what’s going to happen. Walking into the lounge I notice more of the Pack is here than it was when we came up from the
basement, I notice Francis and Stuart drinking a coffee while sitting on the sofa.
“Luna, I have you a blueberry mu ffin,” Sally comes walking over to us so we stop as Eva smiles at her and takes the muflin. “Anything for you Alpha, Beta?” Both of us shake our heads as we try to keep smiles off our faces. Sally is purposefully using our professional titles to show
Elder Iris that she recognises Eva as Luna of the Pack.
“Thanks Sally, maybe later?” Sally just smiles at us before walking off back into the kitchen, it doesn’t escape my notice that she doesn’t even acknowledge Elder Iris. It’s a move of disrespect, kind of on the same level as Elder Iris not addressing Eva as Luna.
“Morning Luna.” Mary waves at us from the kitchen as she digs into a pile of pancakes.
“How’s Heath?” Eva asks as I try to direct her towards the basement doors, I have to admit I am in no rush. This entire situation is showing Elder Iris that the Pack recognises Eva as Luna.
“He’s getting much better, his wolf has finally closed up the wound. You should see him back around the Pack house later today.” I smile at Mary as Eva’s shoulders såg in relief, faced with an Elder and she’s more concerned about our Head Warrior, this is one of the many reasons I love this woman.
“Luna, we have some ideas for a coffee shop on the high street when you have time to go over them.” Eva beams at one of the older ladies as we finally cross over the threshold to the basement stairs.
“Sounds great, I’ll come and look at them later.” Eva calls out as she leads us down the stairs, I notice she’s walking much slower than she normally does. I wonder if Selena’s words are ringing in her head about taking it easy.
“Eva, you alright?” I ask her quietly, she looks back at me and nods her head as she walks over to the small cream sofa and takes a seat. Sitting down next to her I turn myself to the side and see she’s watching Elder Iris but there is a worried look on her face.
“Beta Rowan, if you can please give us some privacy.” Elder Iris says.

as she sits on the armchair and puts down a bag I hadn’t realised she was carrying. Rowan just looks at me, I shake my head slightly and he plops himself down on the sofa next to me and Eva.
“Not going to happen.” Rowan says as he leans back on the sofa to glare at Elder Iris.
“Alright then, Miss Smith it’s nice to see you took our advice and stayed within Everfur while we conducted our investigation.” I again growl at Eva being referred to as Miss Smith, it’s not her name and Elder Iris is now just doing it to get a reaction from me.
“Why would I leave? It’s my home, my Pack and will soon be the home to my child.” I grip Eva’s hand in mine as she looks at me with a smile. on her face.
“Yes, we heard that you and Alpha Castiel were expecting a pup. It’s a shame it will be unrecognised in the eyes of The Elders.” This time my growl comes out loudly, there is no way the old bit ch missed it but she’s pretending she doesn’t hear me as she pulls some paperwork out of her bag.
“My baby is very recognised, I am mated to the Alpha and I am Luna of Everfur. You can’t take that from me or my baby.” I am proud of Eva for standing up for herself but I also don’t want her getting herself in more trouble with The Elder’s than she needs to be.
“We can address that later, for now we are here to discuss the charges around you telling a human about shifters. As you know this is a class one crime and it has been judged by The Elder council.” Eva works her hand in mine as Rowan sits forward, I just grip Eva’s hand as I spear Rowan with a look that tells him to cool it.
“I didn’t tell any human about us, Jeremy is part of The Shalamayne and we can prove it.” I nod my head at Elder Iris as Eva tells her about.

Jeremy, we still have him sitting in a cell. He’s being guarded around the clock, I refuse to give an inch, human or not he’s proven that he is resourceful when it comes to escaping shifters.
“This would be the same Shalamayne that attacked the Swiftmane Pack that raised you?” Elder Iris pulls a pen from her pocket and starts writing down something on the paper, “are we supposed to believe that you lived within the community for eighteen years and never met this human?” I squeeze Eva’s hand as she goes to answer Elder Iris.
“How many Packs in America? Have you met every wolf? The Shalamayne is bigger than even we know of, it’s highly possible Eva never met this man before. From what we understand he doesn’t live within the community.” Elder Iris looks at me with a disbelieving look, “I have him here within our cells should you wish to speak to him, you can even take him for further questioning if you want.
“I will offer that suggestion to the council, for now we are finding Eva guilty of a class one crime but due to her condition,” Elder Iris waves a hand at Eva’s little pouch, “you will be remanded into the custody of The Elder’s until your hearing.” I feel my eyes widen as Storm
threatens to rip Elder Iris apart, this bit ch is going to take my pregnant mate to be assessed by the Elder council and there is no knowing how this is going to end.
“When do we leave?” Eva asks, I don’t miss the wobble in her voice as Rowan quickly jumps up from the sofa and runs up the stairs.
“It’s not a ‘we’, it will be you only Miss Smith. I will give you one hour to get some personal effects together,” I have no words as Elder Iris collects her stuff and walks up the basement stairs. I have plenty to say but I can feel Storm raging so I am too busy trying to keep him in place. to be able to say anything. Eva’s hand tightens in mine as we both sit in silence watching Elder Iris walk out of the door at the top of the basement.
