Chapter 11 

Even Martin, with his experience in the field, looked taken aback when he heard Noelle’s remark. Most of his patients wanted children. Hence, it shocked him to learn that Noelle had been taking birth control pills. 

Martin could not help but glance at Hendrix. Hendrix frowned. He did not seem aware of the birth control pills that Noelle had been taking. 

However, Martin quickly gathered himself. After a pause, he recommended, “Well, you should stop taking birth control pills. I’ll prescribe you something. You need to nurse your health for now.” 

Noelle said nothing more, though she was quick to accept Martin’s prescription “Thank you.” 

With that, she left without so much as looking back. Hendrix followed behind her. 

Knowing he had no time for her, she went ahead to hail a cab after leaving the hospital. However, he pulled her back. 

“Get into the car.” His tone was icy, just like the look in his eyes. 

“It’s fine. I’ll call a cab home.” 

“Noelle Swanson, I’m asking you to get into the car.” His face progressively soured. It would be rather awkward for them to engage in a tussle at the entrance. 

After looking around, she finally opened the car door. But before she could fasten her seatbelt, Hendrix. immediately hit the gas, nearly throwing her out of her seat 

Noelle’s lips tightened into a line. After buckling her seatbelt, she turned to Hendrix. “I can get out of the car if you don’t feel like giving me a ride.” 

“Why did you take birth control pills?” He ignored her remark and threw out a dumb question. 

Still, she answered him, “Because I don’t want to get pregnant.” 

Hendrix finally turned around to stare at her. This time, she did not avoid his gaze and engaged in a stare–down with him. 

They so happened to come across the red light. Hendrix stopped the car, and time ticked past. 

Although he said nothing, Noelle noticed he gripped and released the steering wheel multiple times, a sign that he was keeping his emotions under control. 

After a few rounds of gripping and releasing, his voice finally returned to a calm tone. “I do not plan to be childless.” 

“I know.” Noelle chuckled softly. “And I’m aware the Freeman family would not want a daughter–in–law who doesn’t want kids. But… it’s not like that affects you, right? 

Seemingly puzzled by her statement, he squinted at her. 

Noelle slowly explained, “Many women out there would jump at the chance of carrying your child, that is, if you’re willing.” 

“Huh?” Hendrix chuckled. “And? Are you going to adopt those illegitimate children and raise them?” 

Yeah. I don’t mind.” 

That wiped the smile off his face. Still, he wasn’t angry at her. After the light turned green, he calmly started the
