Chapter 20 

Noelle said she wanted a divorce, but Hendrix showed no reaction. 

He shot her a look before accepting the papers. Flipping through the pages, he arrived at the final page and saw that she had signed it. 

He chuckled. 

Before Noelle could read his reaction, he had torn the divorce papers in half, causing her heart to skip a beat. 

Soon, she calmed down and said to him, “Mr. Freeman, I can print a new copy for you if you’re unhappy with the one in your hands.” 

Remaining silent, he tossed the papers into the trash can while striding toward Noelle. She looked shocked when he closed in, and she instinctively backed off. 

She retreated until her waist was pressed against the edge of the table. The bruises around her waist hurt when she knocked against the table, causing her to draw a sharp breath 

Hendrix grabbed her wrist. “Noelle, are you threatening me with a divorce? Or is this your way of giving in to make progress with me? Your crass tricks disgust me!” 

She could not believe that Hendrix had described her as disgusting. She recalled the look in his eyes when he thought he had exposed her intentions. 

Hendrix seemed to have spoken up against her not mainly out of the urge to defend Sandra, but he was partly driven by distaste for her so–called “tricks“. 

This wasn’t the first time he let her down, but Noelle could feel her heart beating wildly. She opened her mouth, but no words came out. 

Oddly, a grin started to spread across her face. She finally found her voice. “I’m not threatening you. I’m serious.” Hendrix’s eyes narrowed. 

Noelle continued, “What’s the point of continuing a loveless marriage?” 

“What else matters to you? Don’t tell me it’s that bastard from the Quinlan family.” He snickered. 

His sudden mention of Maxwell caught her by surprise. Noelle’s expression hardened, and her head She looked him in the eye. 

snapped up. 

Hendrix pressed on, “Is he your next lover?” 

“Of course not,” she blurted out. 

Something occurred to her. She gasped, “Did you go through my phone?” 

After their call that night, Noelle and Maxwell added each other’s contacts on WhatsApp. All he did was share his flight details with her, after which they enjoyed a brief chat 

Hendrix had misinterpreted such an innocent exchange as cheating. His assumptions disgusted her. 

Before she could speak, he grabbed her chin. “Noelle Swanson, I’m not as fake and shameless as you are. You did everything so you could marry me in the first place. 

“I assume you would have understood what it meant to many into the Freeman family. We’re not a family you could join and leave as you wish.
