Chapter 24
Sandra’s arm was linked with Hendrix. They were both wearing matching blue outfits. At a glance, it looked like they were the perfect couple.
Noelle felt as if she had been slapped by her own husband. Bitterness welled up in her. Not even the cake could push the bitter taste away.
She did not continue her conversation with Maxwell. Instead, she placed her cake down on the table. Just as she turned to leave, Sandra saw her.
“Noelle!”
Her voice was loud and clear. It was impossible for Noelle not to hear her. At the same time, Maxwell stepped in front of her, blocking her path of escape.
Noelle frowned at him.
Maxwell did not look at her. He looked straight ahead and siled, putting out his hand. “Mr. Freeman. I’ve heard a lot about you.”
Hendrix ignored Noelle, who had turned her back to him, and shook Maxwell’s hand. “Pleasure to meet you.”
“Max, long time no see!” Sandra greeted Maxwell excitedly as well. Her eyes were large and bright, shining almost as bright as the stars.
Maxwell just smiled at her politely.
Sandra did not seem to mind his lackluster reaction. She turned her smile onto Noelle. “Noelle, why didn’t you tell me you were coming here?
“I left late, so I thought I’d be the last one to arrive. I didn’t expect to see Hendrix at the door! Actually, why didn’t you come with him?”
Sandra managed to explain why she had turned up with Hendrix, but the main point was her last question.
Noelle turned. “No particular reason,” she replied simply, dot inviting an answer.
Not even Sandra knew how to continue the conversation. But she brightened all the same and changed the subject.. “Max, you must have prepared all these cakes for Noelle, didn’t you? But I don’t think she likes cake now. I’ve never seen Hendrix get her any cake.”
Sandra’s acting was horrible. Noelle could puke at the sight.
She had no intention of playing along with her act. “Sorry, she said. “I need to go to the bathroom.”
With that, she turned away.
Sandra was about to offer to accompany her, but Noelle wasn’t about to give her the chance. As soon as she finished speaking, she walked away.
Just then, someone grabbed her hand. Before she could react, the hand made its way around her shoulder.
“I’ll go with you,” Hendrix said, calm yet firm.
Noelle frowned.

Like how the story is progressing now but why is the author only releasing 3 chapters at a time? this is torture😩😩...
Woah chapters 41-45 is intense!! Good to see Noelle’s character who has come across as mostly detached actually express emotion....
I find Noelle’s character so frustrating, she comes across lacking any true emotion. The chapters where Rosie was missing was probably the most where we have seen some strong outward emotion shown. Dreading these next few chapters if she is going to do something drastic to “go find Seline” The author has taken us on a rollercoaster with these characters. The novel feels like it is at a stage now where they can come full circle....
A good change of pace and story in the last 10 chapters. Good to see the shift in Hendrix’s character (more patience) to win over Noelle and Rosie. Hope we start to see them warm up to him. Please no crazy twist where he loses them again. Have enjoyed this story and looking forward to its wrap up👨👩👧...

I have been in love with this novel but I don’t know how much patience I have to wait until the to finish line. Dear Author, can you atleast give us some idea about how long is this going to be or if there’s any turning point coming soon. And it would be great if you could upload at least 10 chapters at once. 5 chapters is making me more impatience with the anticipation of the further story of novel🙈...
I really hope there is a turning point in this story where Noelle starts to show some interest in Hendrix...
