Noelle was startled by the touch–Hendrix’s hand was ice–cold.
If he weren’t still sitting beside her, she might have thought he had stopped breathing. Perhaps it was because her own body temperature was too high, but at that moment, Hendrix froze.
Then, slowly, he turned his head to look at her.
“You should head back first. I can stay here,” Noelle said.
“No-” Hendrix had intended to refuse, but just as the words reached his lips, something seemed to cross his
mind.
He smiled wryly and said, “You’re right. If she wakes up and sees me, she probably wouldn’t be too happy. Maybe she’d even want to die all over again.”
Noelle fell silent.
But Hendrix quickly made a decision. “Come back with me. You need rest, too.”
“It’s fine. I can rest here. Besides, if we leave only the caregiver behind to take care of her, you won’t be able to relax anyway.”
As soon as Noelle finished speaking, Hendrix fell silent.
She smiled at him. “Go on. If anything happens, I’ll call you!”
In the end, Hendrix got to his feet. His body felt stiff, his mind a blank daze.
But Noelle’s words seemed to switch something inside him like a machine responding to a command, he stood and walked out without another word.
As he stepped out of the hospital, the cold night air hit him head–on. It was only then that he suddenly remembered something.
Without hesitation, he got into his car and drove straight back to Freeman Manor.
The house had been in chaos earlier that night, but now, everything was pristine, meticulously restored to order.
Ophelia and the household staff had all retired for the night Everything was so quiet, as if nothing had ever happened.
For the first time, Hendrix felt a deep fear toward this house. It was as if, in its eyes, nothing and no one truly mattered.
Even though someone had nearly died here tonight, the house remained tranquil, as though what happened before was just a fleeting illusion.
His footsteps faltered.
After a brief pause, he continued forward.
Ophelia was already asleep, but he didn’t care. He went upstairs and pushed open her bedroom door without hesitation.
The abrupt movement startled Ophelia awake.
“What do you think you’re doing?” she roared furiously. “Are you trying to scare me to death by barging in like this in the middle of the night?“.

Woah chapters 41-45 is intense!! Good to see Noelle’s character who has come across as mostly detached actually express emotion....
I find Noelle’s character so frustrating, she comes across lacking any true emotion. The chapters where Rosie was missing was probably the most where we have seen some strong outward emotion shown. Dreading these next few chapters if she is going to do something drastic to “go find Seline” The author has taken us on a rollercoaster with these characters. The novel feels like it is at a stage now where they can come full circle....
A good change of pace and story in the last 10 chapters. Good to see the shift in Hendrix’s character (more patience) to win over Noelle and Rosie. Hope we start to see them warm up to him. Please no crazy twist where he loses them again. Have enjoyed this story and looking forward to its wrap up👨👩👧...

I have been in love with this novel but I don’t know how much patience I have to wait until the to finish line. Dear Author, can you atleast give us some idea about how long is this going to be or if there’s any turning point coming soon. And it would be great if you could upload at least 10 chapters at once. 5 chapters is making me more impatience with the anticipation of the further story of novel🙈...
I really hope there is a turning point in this story where Noelle starts to show some interest in Hendrix...
