The sudden noise startled Rosie, and she immediately buried herself in Noelle's arms, her wide eyes fixed on Hendrix.
But Hendrix didn't even notice her reaction. His gaze was locked on Noelle as he said, "Come out."
As soon as he finished speaking, Rosie grabbed Noelle's hand tightly. "Mommy, don't go."
Rosie had always been wary of Hendrix, but this was the first time Noelle sensed genuine fear in her. Her little fingers were gripping Noelle's hand so tightly that they had turned pale.
Noelle quickly reassured her, "It's okay. I'll just go see what he wants."
"No!" Rosie shook her head without hesitation.
Noelle glanced at the door. Hendrix was still standing there, unmoving. The tight set of his lips and his grim expression were nothing short of sharp and severe.
Rosie's grip on Noelle's hand tightened even more.
Noelle had no choice but to hand Rosie the little lion plushie beside her. "Wait here for me, okay? I'll be right back."
Rosie still didn't want to let go, but she was even more afraid of Hendrix standing there. So, she released Noelle's hand reluctantly.
"Mommy, come back quickly. I'm scared."
"Okay. Don't worry." Noelle ruffled Rosie's hair before standing up and walking toward Hendrix.
Hendrix turned immediately and led her to the balcony on the second floor.
As soon as they stopped, he asked her, "Where did you go today?"
Noelle hadn't expected him to make such a scene just to ask this question. She paused for a moment before answering, "I went to the mall with Seline. Why?"
"So? Don't you have anything to say to me?"
Hendrix's expression grew even darker as he stared at her intently.
Her question was accompanied by a look of genuine confusion, as if she couldn't understand why he was asking.
Hendrix stared at her for a moment before suddenly bursting out in laughter. "You're secretly laughing at me, aren't you?"
"What?"
"Or are you just waiting to see me make a fool of myself?"
As he spoke, he suddenly turned around and took a large step toward her, closing the distance between them.
The sudden movement caught Noelle off guard. It was only then that she noticed the faint smell of alcohol on him.
A frown immediately appeared on her forehead. Just as she was about to take a step back, Hendrix closed in on her again in two steps.
"I bet you think this is funny. That no matter how many people are around me, all they ever want is something from me. And that's why you didn't say anything to me, even though you saw Angela with another man—just so I could keep playing the fool, isn't it?"

Woah chapters 41-45 is intense!! Good to see Noelle’s character who has come across as mostly detached actually express emotion....
I find Noelle’s character so frustrating, she comes across lacking any true emotion. The chapters where Rosie was missing was probably the most where we have seen some strong outward emotion shown. Dreading these next few chapters if she is going to do something drastic to “go find Seline” The author has taken us on a rollercoaster with these characters. The novel feels like it is at a stage now where they can come full circle....
A good change of pace and story in the last 10 chapters. Good to see the shift in Hendrix’s character (more patience) to win over Noelle and Rosie. Hope we start to see them warm up to him. Please no crazy twist where he loses them again. Have enjoyed this story and looking forward to its wrap up👨👩👧...

I have been in love with this novel but I don’t know how much patience I have to wait until the to finish line. Dear Author, can you atleast give us some idea about how long is this going to be or if there’s any turning point coming soon. And it would be great if you could upload at least 10 chapters at once. 5 chapters is making me more impatience with the anticipation of the further story of novel🙈...
I really hope there is a turning point in this story where Noelle starts to show some interest in Hendrix...
