Noelle didn't notice the Christmas present under her pillow until the next day. Inside the small box was a pair of earrings and a rosary. She stared at it for a while before silently putting the box back and getting out of bed to go downstairs.
Beatrice and Rosie were playing poker in the living room. Along with them were a few of the household staff. They were using pistachios as chips, and everyone seemed to be having a great time.
It seemed Rosie had won the round, as she was bouncing around excitedly. When she saw Noelle, her smile widened, and she ran over to share the good news.
"Mommy, I won again! Look! I won so many things!"
Noelle looked at her beaming face and instinctively wanted to praise her, but it felt like something was stuck in her throat, and no words came out. In the end, she could only force a smile, but even that wasn't convincing.
Because she could clearly see the excitement in Rosie's eyes fade as they met hers. Noelle hadn't wanted this to happen. She, more than anyone, didn't want to see Rosie sad or hurt. Yet, she simply couldn't control herself.
Beatrice eventually stepped in. "Alright. Your mommy hasn't had breakfast yet, and Ruby is still waiting for you to continue the game. You've won so much already—you're not thinking of running away, are you?"
"I would never run away!" Rosie answered immediately.
Even so, she still cast a hesitant glance toward Noelle, reluctant to leave. But in the end, she chose to go along with Beatrice and turned back to rejoin the game.
Noelle stood where she was, watching Rosie leave. She knew she shouldn't be like this. She also knew Rosie had to be disappointed and upset, but…
Just as she was biting her lip, lost in thought, Beatrice's voice suddenly came through, "It's okay."
Noelle turned to her, and Beatrice reached out to pat her shoulder. "Rosie is a good girl, and she's your daughter, after all. So, I'm sure she'll understand you. Come on. Have something to eat. I had them make sweet oatmeal. You'll definitely like it."

The readers' comments on the novel: The Sway and Slide of Love
Like how the story is progressing now but why is the author only releasing 3 chapters at a time? this is torture😩😩...
Woah chapters 41-45 is intense!! Good to see Noelle’s character who has come across as mostly detached actually express emotion....
I find Noelle’s character so frustrating, she comes across lacking any true emotion. The chapters where Rosie was missing was probably the most where we have seen some strong outward emotion shown. Dreading these next few chapters if she is going to do something drastic to “go find Seline” The author has taken us on a rollercoaster with these characters. The novel feels like it is at a stage now where they can come full circle....
A good change of pace and story in the last 10 chapters. Good to see the shift in Hendrix’s character (more patience) to win over Noelle and Rosie. Hope we start to see them warm up to him. Please no crazy twist where he loses them again. Have enjoyed this story and looking forward to its wrap up👨👩👧...

I have been in love with this novel but I don’t know how much patience I have to wait until the to finish line. Dear Author, can you atleast give us some idea about how long is this going to be or if there’s any turning point coming soon. And it would be great if you could upload at least 10 chapters at once. 5 chapters is making me more impatience with the anticipation of the further story of novel🙈...
I really hope there is a turning point in this story where Noelle starts to show some interest in Hendrix...
