His gaze was piercingly cold, even with the mask in place. It felt as if he couldn’t wait to tear her apart piece by piece. 

Noelle met his gaze for a long while. In the end, she still broke the silence as she spoke up, “Why… Why did you bring me here?” 

“What’s the matter? Are you upset that I’ve ruined your plans?” He sneered. 

Hendrix’s face grew stormier as his grip around her chin became tighter. It was clear that he was holding a grudge because she’d rejected his dance invitation earlier. The kick she’d just given him only added fuel to the fire. 

Right now, his grip was so strong that it felt as if he was about to crush her bones. 

Noelle couldn’t help but furrow her brows in pain. She was just about to push his hand away when Hendrix pinned her hands down. Then, he pushed his knee up and got right between her legs. 

“You’re certainly quite popular, Ms. Swanson.” He fixed his gaze on her before he continued, “I’ve never realized that you had the talent to be a socialite.” 

In the past, Noelle had always been quiet and reserved. She would only display a different kind of charm on certain 

occasions. 

Initially, Hendrix thought that he was the only one who could see that side of her. But that didn’t seem to be the 

case now. 

He felt as if he’d been tricked. To be precise, it felt as if he’d been played with. 

There was a visible change in Noelle’s expression as soon as his words fell. However, she quickly covered it up with a smile. “So, in your eyes, does dancing two songs with someone make me a socialite?” 

“It wouldn’t have been the same for others. But you’re different. Don’t you think that it’s inappropriate for you to smile like that at a man?” he questioned. 

“What’s different about me?” she instinctively retorted. 

Realization struck Noelle just as her words fell. She slowly turned her gaze toward him. “What do you mean by that?” 

Hendrix didn’t answer her question. Instead, he only glanced at her with narrowed eyes. 

His reaction had all but confirmed her doubts. It was exactly as Noelle had thought. 

The only thing that set her apart from the others was the fact that she’d nearly been assaulted. 

After William had been arrested, Noelle had overheard others saying that the reason she’d almost been assaulted was because she’d been promiscuous. 

But what stayed with Noelle the most was that Hendrix had once told her that she wasn’t at fault. 

They’d already been divorced then, and she no longer had any feelings for him. But his words still gave hier Immense courage. For once, she even felt as if she was no longer alone. 

But now, he was reprimanding her for smiling at a man. Iturned out that the words he’d uttered back then were just a means to placate her.
