Chapter 140
The man in the wheelchair was a vision of unparalleled beauty. His face, a canvas of perfection, was accentuated by a teardrop mole that added an eerie allure. A chilling aura enveloped him.
His narrow, big eyes were as brown, deep and unfathomable as an abyss, and as cold as a frigid pond.
Zack, the playboy of the Dawson family, and Shane followed behind him. William had heard a few things about the relationship between Quiana and Julius. He narrowed his eyes. “Mr. Hawley, you got here pretty fast.
Julius’s gaze lingered on Quiana, his expression weary, and his voice cold and deep. “It’s hard not to notice when you make such a big fuss to grab someone from Liberty Island.”
William’s eyes darkened. “Some say that Mr. Hawley was there that day and that if anything happened, you would take full responsibility!”
Julius nodded. “That’s right.“,
William’s expression grew even more grim. “So, how do you plan to take responsibility now?”
Julius lifted his chin. “Shane,” he said, his voice commanding.
The best doctor at the National Medical Bureau was Paul, followed by his son, Shane. But Shane was practically Julius’s personal physician, and even the four prominent families might struggle to secure his services.
William’s pupils constricted. “What do you mean, Mr. Hawley?”
Shane glanced at Quiana; his tone cool. “To see your son.”
Hayden’s expression changed. “We’re handling Mr. Hanson’s treatment now. Given Quiana’s relationship with Julius, who knows if you’re working together?”
Julius raised an eyebrow. “Are you talking to me?” His casual glance felt like a plunge into an ice cave, sending shivers down Hayden’s spine.
Hayden’s scalp tingled. “I–I’m just speaking the truth.”
Shane didn’t understand why Julius was covering for Quiana, and he didn’t agree, but his principles as a doctor kept him standing there. His cold gaze through his glasses pierced Hayden. “Are you questioning me, or the National Medical Bureau?”
“I–I wouldn’t dare!” In the face of medical expertise, no one dared to challenge.
Zack scoffed. “Quiana’s pill, Julius also took. And here he is, sitting just fine.”
“But it’s different,” Hayden frowned. “Julius has a leg injury.” His eyes swept over Julius’s legs, but he didn’t dare finish the sentence. “Mr. Hanson has a heart condition, it’s a different illness.”
Amidst the back–and–forth, one of the doctors suddenly noticed Quiana was gone. He scanned the entire hallway. “Where’s Quiana?”
“In the ward!” Hayden shouted through the window and door.
William and Monica’s faces turned grave, and they were about to rush in.
Julius barked, “Leo.”
Leo nodded and darted into the room first, bracing himself against the door.
On the bed, Tom lay hooked up to a ventilator, his fáce pale and bloodless, the heart monitor showing a slow, weak pulse.
Quiana examined his eyes, then pinched his wrist. His pulse was very weak, almost on the brink of death. In the next moment, her clear eyes opened, a cold light flashing in them.
“Ms. Levine, hurry up.” Several people outside the door were sobbing and pounding, and even Leo’s strength was struggling to hold them back.
Quiana released Tom. “Let them in.”
“Quiana, Let go of my son!” Monica burst in, clawing at Quiana.
