Chapter 28: Engagement with the Foster Family
The moment she heard that name, Eleanor’s face turned pale, devoid of color.
She gripped Vanessa’s arm tightly, her voice trembling. “Mom, I don’t want. I don’t want to marry him. I heard he’s a disabled man in a wheelchair and he looks very ugly…”
Vanessa frowned in distress. “I don’t want to either but this is the engagement that Grandfather has set, and he absolutely won’t break it. Besides, the Foster family is the top aristocratic family in the United States. Even if we wanted to break it, we need to consider the consequences of offending the Toster family.”
This engagement dates back to before Eleanor’s birth.
Although Christopher was neither talented nor particularly smart, he had his fair share of good luck. Over a decade ago, while climbing Bear Mountain, a famous mountain in the capital, he encountered an elderly man who had injured his leg.
Seeing the old man sitting alone on the ground in pain, Christopher carried him down the mountain and took him to the hospital without a second thought. Little did he know, the old man turned out to be the well–known Old Mr. Foster!
To express his gratitude, Old Mr. Foster promised a marriage alliance if Christopher were to have a daughter in the future, she would become the wife of his fourth grandson.
Why the fourth grandson in particular?
It was because Old Mr. Foster’s son was reckless and had fathered illegitimate children. The eldest son, the second son, and even the third daughter were all born out of wedlock. Only the fourth son was born to the proper wife. So, although Max held the fourth position, he had the purest bloodline and was the most legitimate heir of the Foster family.

For the Bellerose family, this was a gift from the heavens. After all, while the Bellerose family was respectable, they still paled in comparison to the Foster family, the top aristocratic family in the United States Without this engagement, their girls would never have had the chance to marry into the Foster family.
However,
the years, rumors about Max have become more and more
ore widespread.
For example, he had a cold and reclusive personality; he was phyucally disabled and reliant on a wheelchair; he was ugly and would scare children
Some even say that he is inept in the bedroom
Initially, the foster family didn’t believe those rumors. But Max was elusive, hardly ever appearing in public. If there were no problems, why would he need to hide like that?
Their skepticism gradually turned into belief
They thought they had gained a great a
t advantage, but who would have thought that they’d end up in a pin?

And then there was Benjamin Harper, the one she treated as a brother.
Eleanor and Benjamin had grown up together, childhood friends who’s
