Chapter 100
“The person who briped Charlotte was more melindous than I expected” Grayson said.
Adding more deals, he continued. “My team has been investigating this person since we found out about the arson. But he’s always one step ahead, crating every trace. The vehicle he used is registered under an unsuspecting civilian, and we’ve already reported it to the police
“My mom is almost at my villa in Los Angeles. My security have her under control”
“She’s not saying anything?” I asked
“She’s frightened and wants to speak with me directly, Grayson explained
“Why not return?” I asked
“I can’t leave you alone here. I’ll wait for the doctor’s clearance before considering taking you back to Los Angeles.”
I’m truly sorry for the inconvenience I’ve caused”
He pinched my nose lightly. “You’re not a nuisance if that’s what you think.”
I could see the exhaustion in his face–the faint lines, the way his shoulders sagged. Guilt gnawed at me, so I patted the side of the hospital bed. “Come here and rest”
His smile was wide and unguarded as he lay down beside me. A familiar warmth spread through my chest. I had missed him like this–the steady rhythm of his breath against my skin, the quiet sound of his snores, the scent of him, the solid comfort of his presence.
His warmth wrapped around me like a lullaby, pulling me toward sleep. Just before the darkness fully claimed me, I heard him whisper,
“I love you, Bella… I won’t let them hurt you.”

Meanwhile, inside Mrs. Moretti’s van, four guards closely watched her.
Her heart pounded with fear and uncertainty as she realized the truth–her lover, the man who had deceived her, was now plotting to end her life. The betrayal was apparent, filling her with dread.
In the back, one of the guards received a message:
“You understand your mission. My team has uncovered your medical diagnosis–terminal cancer with merely a year left to live. The cost of treatment would financially devastate your family. We will ensure your wife receives substantial compensation, securing her future after your passing. Complete this task, and your family’s financial security is guaranteed.”
The sender had been messaging him since Europe. He had wanted to tell Mr. Blake, but the sender had strategically included a photograph revealing the precise location of his wife and son. The implied threat was unmistakable.
“I need to use the restroom!” Mrs. Moretti demanded, her tone sharp with entitlement, jolting the guard back to reality.
The head of security permitted the driver to stop at the nearest gas station. As they exited the van, the guard who had received the message walked toward the convenience store.
Casually, he bought a pack of biscuits, slipped his powered–off phone inside the wrapper, and discarded it into the garbage, his movements betraying no hint of internal turmoil.

Martha’s words took me back to my last conversation with Madam Blake before Cassie and 1 les Los agres
“Thank you, Martha. I miss her, too,” I said softly.
As she served the meal she had lovingly prepared, I couldn’t help but notice Grayson’s unusual realessness. His mood was visibly agitated, and he was ready to leave as soon as we arrived.
“Where are you going?” I asked, noticing the urgency in his behavior.
“There’s been a critical development with my mother’s team,” he said, his voice filled with worry. His why I haven’t been able to contact them.”
I shot up from my seat. “What happened?”
His jaw tensed. “Mom has been taken to the hospital. When the rescue team arrived, my men were already dead–except a single survivor.”
A sharp gasp escaped me as the gravity of his words sank in.
Grayson’s voice hardened. “Beyond that one survivor, my mother was the only other person found alive when the emergency team arrived. This wasn’t just an accident, Isabella. It was an attack. Mom knew the identity of the person who hid Charlotte. They attempted to silence her before she could reach Los Angeles.”
He leaned in, pressing a hurried kiss to my cheek. “I have to go.”
I simply nodded and watched him walk away, my gaze lingering on him as he disappeared.
A troubling pattern was starting to show–people were disappearing one by one as if they were being carefully taken off a chessboard.
Who is this person, really?
Were they after me, or was Grayson the real target?
I purposely stepped back from the investigation, wanting to protect my unborn child from the growing dangers around “s But when evening came, an unexpected visitor showed up at the villa.
