I silently scolded myself for using myself as bait to catch Charlotte. The pain in my stomach worsened, and I couldn’t shake the fear for my unborn child. But I needed answers. I had to know who among my friends or family had betrayed me–who Charlotte’s accomplice was.
My thoughts kept returning to one person: my father, Mr. Prescott.
Grayson’s voice jolted me from my spiraling thoughts.
“Isabella, I’m taking you to the hospital,” Grayson said firmly before turning to his bodyguards. “Keep an eye on that woman. The police will need to question her.”
The guards nodded sharply. “Yes, boss!”
I clutched my stomach, my worry growing as my gaze fell on the figure sprawled on the road. “Gray… Gabriel…” My voice trembled. “Is he-?”
“Ma’am, he’s still breathing,” one of the guards assured me.
Charlotte struggled against the bodyguards, her eyes blazing with hatred as she glared at me.
“Let me go!” she shrieked. “Don’t touch me! You’re all a bunch of filthy perverts!”
Her vile accusations seemed to throw the guards off for a split second, their grip on her faltering. Sensing their hesitation, Charlotte tried to break free, but the guards quickly tightened their grip, stopping her from escaping.
“I’ll kill you—” The threat died in her throat as a gunshot cracked through the winter air.
“Ahhh!” My scream pierced the sudden silence as Charlotte’s
s body crumpled to the ground.
Everyone froze. The bodyguards flinched and turned toward the source of the shot. I followed their gaze and saw Evan at the mansion gates.
He had shot her.
“Are you alright, Isabella?” Evan asked, his voice laced with worry as he walked closer.
But I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the crimson pool spreading from Charlotte’s head, staining the snow–covered road like an open wound. My body trembled, disbelief coursing through me like ice.
“What the fuck were you thinking?” Grayson’s enraged voice shattered the horrified silence. “Why did you kill her?”
“She’s trying to harm Isabella and everyone in the mansion! Did you see how easily she almost broke free? With all the accidents tonight, we couldn’t risk her causing more harm. She’s completely unhinged–I had to make a split–second decision to protect everyone!” Evan’s voice rose defensively.
Grayson’s eyes narrowed dangerously at Evan’s justification, but a sharp cry of pain escaped my lips before he could respond. The cramping in my abdomen had intensified to an unbearable level.
“Gray, the baby…” I clutched my stomach.
Charlotte wasn’t my concern right now–nothing else mattered except the child growing inside me. The pain intensified, spreading like fire with every passing second.
“Gabriel!” Sabrina screamed, rushing to the man lying motionless on the floor. “What did you do to him?!”
But then, she froze. Her horrified gaze fell on the crimson stain pooling beneath another body. She screamed again, a sharp,

“He’s not well. The impact from Charlowe’s car left him with severe injuries. He’s in costs for multiple broken ribs and legs. But your father’s condition is more critical, Bella. The location of Charlotte’s stab wound put him in the ICU
My thoughts drifted to the complicated relationship with my parents, wondering what conversation had transpired between them and Charlotte. Something in their interaction must have triggered her violent response.
Grayson continued, “The police are questioning, Evan about the shooting, He claims it was to protect you–he believed your cousin had every intention of harming you, citing what happened to your father and Gabriel as evidence of Charlotte’s dangerous intentions. With so many quests present at the gathering, he argues he had to take decisive action. The police seem to understand his reasoning, but their investigation is still ongoing”
Grayson explained further, telling me how Charlotte had managed to get in as a maid at the mansion. The head maid was in utter disbelief when she learned about Charlotte’s scheme, especially since she had never seen her at the mansion over the past few days.
The maids‘ duties for the day were set, allowing Charlotte to avoid encountering certain members who were familiar with her. But now, with the tragedy that had unfolded, security at Jones Mansion would undoubtedly be heightened.
“She carried out her plan methodically, seducing one of the guards and arranging for a maid to be replaced. When the Jones questioned the maid, she told them Charlotte had manipulated her with pressure and money.”
Seeing the tears streaming down my face, Grayson moved to sit beside me, gently drawing me against his shoulder.
“She’s gone, Isabella. I won’t let anyone hurt you; I’ll always be here to protect you.”
Though shock lingered, I felt relieved knowing Charlotte could no longer hurt my family. But questions kept swirling in my mind, and I finally released the emotions I had held back.
Just then, someone called Grayson, interrupting our conversation for a moment. He put his phone on speaker.
“Boss, we’ve convinced Ms. Moretti to return from America,” his associate reported. “When we informed her about Charlotte Prescott’s use of her South Carolina villa, she appeared shocked. According to her, she had only given permission for her lover to use the property.”
“A lover?” Grayson and I exchanged a puzzled glance.
I silently scolded myself for using myself as bait to catch Charlotte. The pain in my stomach worsened, and I couldn’t shake the fear for my unborn child. But I needed answers. I had to know who among my friends or family had betrayed me–who Charlotte’s accomplice was.
