Chapter 3385
“You’re a knight now and we both work for the Duke. We’re on the same boat. So, I would like to apologize to you today. I’ve prepared a banquet so I hope you won’t refuse my invitation.” Jameson feigned an eager and sincere look, but there was a hint of deviousness in his eyes.
Darryl blinked in disbelief. ‘F*ck! Jameson has never been on good terms with me. Something fishy must be going on if he’s suddenly reaching out and is being nice to me.’
However, it would not be nice if Darryl turned Jameson down outright, so he thought he would figure out what Jameson was up to first.
“That’s such a nice gesture, Mayor,” he muttered and nodded.
Jameson was beaming when he noticed that Darryl had not turned down his invitation.
"I set up the banquet at the back. Please come with me!" he said in a hurry.
Jameson led the way, with Darryl following behind him. Once they arrived in the back room, Darryl was stunned. The room was empty. There was no banquet being set up, not even a table.
Click!
Suddenly, Jameson sneered and pressed a mechanism by the door. Then, a huge black cage plummeted from the ceiling, landing on top of Darryl and trapping him under it. 1
Chuck! Chuck!
Immediately afterward, cylinders emerged from the four walls of the room, and dozens of palm-sized feather arrows were shot out from the cylinders.
Everything was happening way too fast and the iron cage was too small. Darryl had nowhere to dodge the attacks. Soon, he was hit by about six or seven feather arrows.
Darryl endured the pain as his anger rose.
"I knew you must have been planning something bad to have done this out of the blue. I’m a knight now. Have you ever thought of the consequences of doing this to me?” he bellowed, locking eyes with Jameson.
Darryl had finally realized Jameson had staged this not to apologize to him but to corner him and attack him. 1
Jameson did not panic even when he felt Darryl’s wrath. Instead, he just laughed. "Even if the Duke finds out, he won't blame me. To tell you the truth, the five Principalities have sent their envoys to negotiate terms. As long as we hand you over to them, we’ll be fine. Otherwise, they will send troops to attack the Day Rise Principality!
"For the sake of the Day Rise Principality’s safety, this was the only way to capture you to hand you over to the five Principalities. I’m sure the Duke won’t blame me for this."
‘What? So, the five Principalities used me as a condition to threaten the Day Rise Principality?’ Darryl frowned, his heart shaking. 1
