Chapter 3424
Still, Darryl did not panic. He half-smilingly looked at Marshall. “ I’ve got to hand it to you, Commander-in-Chief of the garrison. You sure are powerful.”
Marshall ignored him and said to the Queen, “Your Majesty, he is truly despicable. He lied to you about knowing the beast language. I beg Your Majesty to give him the harshest punishment available.”
His eyes were dancing with glee as he said this.
The Queen remained impassive as she gave it some serious consideration. Suddenly, Darryl smiled and said to Marshall, “Your Excellency, I was only going along with you when you kept on saying I don’t know the beast language. This doesn’t mean what you said is true. Don’t you think it’s a little bit too much of you to ask the Queen to punish me when we haven’t even yet ascertained whether I really know the beast language?”
Marshall was slightly shocked. “You’re going to stick to your story?” he said with a cold smile.
“Of course,” replied Darryl nonchalantly.
Marshall was pissed at Darryl’s attitude, “where’s your evidence? How can we believe you without any proof?” He then swept his eyes over the crowd. “Don’t you all think so?”
Those who were close with Marshall immediately showed their support.
“Yes, don’t just say it. Prove it! ”
“Show us the evidence! ”
Darryl furrowed his brow. ‘What is Marshall planning to do now?’
Marshall smiled triumphantly at Darryl’s expression. The next second, he said to the Queen in a respectful tone, “Your Majesty, don’t you think it’s reasonable for US to ask Darren to show US evidence of him knowing the beast language?”
“Yes, but how do you want him to prove it?” asked the Queen.
As a Queen, she had to remain impartial in an argument.
Marshall’s face broke out in a smile at the Queen’s permission. “ Recently, a batch of Golden Lions had just arrived at the garrison. They’re extremely ferocious and notorious to tame, so how about we let Darren tame them with his beast language? If he succeeds in taming them, then he would be absolved from his lies, but if he can’t, that means he lied to you, Your Majesty.” 1
He then turned to look at Darryl with a cocky expression as if Darryl was dead for sure. The hall was instantly filled with the noise of everyone giving their own opinions.
“Let Darren tame the Golden Lion?”
“I’ve gotta see this for myself!”
“His Excellency really has it in for him, huh.”
Their eyes were full of pity for Darryl. Golden Lions — the namesake of the principality — lived in prides and are known to be ferocious and strong. Each year, for the past thousand years, the royals would invest a substantial amount of money and labor in taming the Golden Lions in order to strengthen the Elite Golden Lion Army. However, the success rate of taming the Golden Lion was low. Out of a thousand Golden Lions, only ten or so would be successfully tamed.
Not only that, taming a Golden Lion would require ten or so men to work together. Even then, there was no guarantee none of them would die in the process. Therefore, Marshall’s suggestion of asking Darryl to tame ten or so Golden Lions by himself was akin to a death sentence.
“Marshall, that’s too much!” scolded Princess Angeline, trembling.
Even with the knowledge of the beast language, there was no way Darryl would be able to tame ten Golden Lions in one go.
“Princess Angeline, how is this too much? I’m merely giving him a chance to prove his innocence,” said Marshall devastatingly. Then he glanced sideways at Darryl and said with undisguised contempt, “He can always say no if he thinks he won’t succeed.”
