Darryl’s heart was thumping wildly in his chest while anxious thoughts rushed through his mind. He had no idea what the Nine Heaven Emperor and Empress were talking about at all. 'They must be discussing how to put me to death. I don't blame them, though. I would be angry too if my precious daughter got defiled, but then again, it was not like I wanted to do it!' 2

He wanted to cry, but there were no tears. Suddenly, he heard footsteps. They belonged to the Nine Heaven Emperor and Empress, walking back to the main hall. He started to panic but chose not to reveal it on his face.

The Nine Heaven Emperor and Empress Heidi sized Darryl up. The atmosphere had become heavy and subtle.

Finally, the Nine Heaven Emperor took a deep breath, and said coldly, "Darryl, what is going on between you and Dorothy?"

He had decided to accept Empress Heidi's suggestion to take Darryl in as a son-in-law, but there were still some questions he needed to ask Darryl.

Darryl's mind worked fast. He smiled and said playfully, "You should ask your daughter that."

He answered that way because he did not know what the Nine Heaven Emperor meant. So he decided to put the focus on Princess Dorothy. Darryl’s attitude angered the Nine Heaven Emperor, who forcefully tamped it down.

"Darryl, there's no need for you to panic. We know all about your relationship with Dorothy," Empress Heidi said when she saw the tension between Darryl and the Nine Heaven Emperor. Then, she smiled and said, "We've decided to give you our blessing since you two are in love and things had already progressed this far."

'What? In love with each other?' Darryl was struck dumb, and his mind went blank. He was not in love with the princess at all, and besides, Grunt was the one she liked, not him! He was baffled but dared not to ask for clarification, what she said next stunned him even more.

Empress Heidi bit her lip gently and said, "Darryl, I've discussed it with His Majesty, and we've decided to make you the Jade Dragon Prince Consort. We'll make arrangements for the wedding as soon as His Majesty announces the marriage, what do you think?"

'Oh, sh*t!' Darryl's mouth was agape, and buzzing chaos had taken hold of his brain. 'Did I hear wrong? The Nine Heaven Emperor wants me to be his son-in-law?'

He was beyond shock. He thought he was dead, that the Nine Heaven Emperor would kill him that time. Never in his dream would he expect that twisted ending.

"Darryl, you don't seem too pleased about the marriage. Don't tell me you don't think my daughter isn't good enough for you!" the Nine Heaven Emperor said impatiently. His voice was not loud, but it was full of majestic authority. At the same, Empress Heidi was looking at him expectantly.

Darryl gulped and smiled bitterly, still feeling anxious, he said, "Of course not! It's the other way round!"
