Chapter 738

Melanie waited for Dylan to speak.
She did not trust Dylan, but if Dylan had a conscience, she would not be stupid enough to say ridiculous things in court.
Before Melanie was even done contemplating this, Dylan’s miserable voice began calling out loud. She looked pleadingly toward Melanie. “Mel, what will it take for you to forgive me? I’ve been having nightmares for the past two nights.
“I dreamed that you wanted to end our relationship as mother and daughter. Mel…”
Melanie frowned and jumped. She looked at Dylan’s pitiful face filled with pain. She had a full head of gray hair, and her skin was wrinkled. She looked absolutely pathetic in her hospital gown and wounds.
Her gaze fell on Melanie. She did not seem to hear the judge and Zara call out to her.
Luther looked at Melanie with a small smile. “May I ask the plaintiff what your mother would like you to forgive her for? Why is she communicating with you in such a manner? Can I interpret this as you trying to get your mother to do something with certain conditions?”
Before the trial began, Zara had warned Melanie not to answer anything if Luther asked her questions that had nothing to do with the case.
Luther was good at making up ridiculous reasons that took advantage of the law’s loophole..
“Mel…” Dylan was still looking at her.
Melanie’s fists were slowly clenched. Luther and Dylan were pushing her into a corner. She could hardly breathe.
She did not want to be reminded of what Dylan had done.
Melanie wanted to remember none of those memories.
She looked down. Her expression seemed to be calm, but only Zara, who was the closest to Melanie, could see that Melanie’s shoulders were trembling.
Melanie suddenly felt a deep gaze fall on her. She looked up toward the public seats.
Eugene had somehow come to attend the trial. There was a cold look on his face. He was in a black suit and looked somber. There was no one around him, and the air seemed to stop moving around him.
He was looking at Melanie with a deep look in his eyes. There was something serene about him.
The way he looked at Melanie was not as cold as before. There was a softer look to his usual stern expression and a tinge of tenderness. That was why his expression was not as sharp as before.
Melanie met his eyes and was silent for a brief moment before turning away.
She looked back at Zara after that, and Zara made the request, “I would like to call for the second
