Chapter 122 Be Entangled
Mia’s POV
I looked at Thomas. But I immediately realized that he wanted to help me.
His eyes met mine briefly. A silent message passing between us: Play along. It’s easier this way.

One voice told me: This is not a good idea. Making things inore complicated will not help. I should have corrected Thomas. I should have clarified that Thomas and I were just friends, that there was nothing romantic between us.
But seeing Kyle’s expression changed. A flash of raw pain quickly passed his face, It unlocked something petty and vindictive in me that I wasn’t proud of.
So I said nothing. Just moved closer to Thomas, even allowing him to place a protective hand at the small of my back.
Kyle’s eyes tracked the movement, his expression shuttering completely. When he spoke again, his voice held none of the emotion that had colored it moments before.
“I see.” The two words were clipped, professional. “Then I won’t waste any more of your time.” He nodded once, a businessman concluding an unsuccessful meeting. “Wallace. Mia.”
Without another word, he turned and walked away, his stride measured and controlled until he disappeared through the garden entrance.
The moment he was gone, I sagged against Thomas, the adrenaline that had kept me upright suddenly evaporating.
“Let’s sit down,” he suggested, guiding me back to my chair with gentle pressure. “You’re trembling.”
I sank into the seat, suddenly exhausted. “I’m sorry,” I said once I’d caught my breath. “For dragging you into that. For letting you lie for me.”
Thomas shook his head, dismissing my apology as he reclaimed his own seat. “You didn’t drag me into anything. I made a choice.”
Some say you should leave people who awaken the evil in you. Kyle was like that for me. Of course, he didn’t do it on purpose. Just looking at him, I always felt possessive, jealous, bitter. I once so hoped that he would fall in love with me. And now I can’t help but feel happy when I see him suffer. I shook my head gently. This is all wrong.
“A choice to lie,” I pointed out, guilt churning in my stomach. “And to potentially make things awkward between you and Kyle. Don’t you two have business connections?”
“Nothing that can’t be managed.” His tone was matter–of–fact, unconcerned. “And as for the lie… sometimes a useful fiction is
kinder than a complicated truth.”
I sighed. “You sound like you’re speaking from experience.”
“Perhaps.” He checked his watch. “Would you like to return to the suite? You look like you could use some rest.”
“Thomas…” I hesitated, needing to clear one thing up. “About what you said to Kyle. I don’t want you to feel obligated to maintain that story. We can tell Scarlett the truth.”
“Let’s discuss that later,” he suggested, signaling for the bill. “When you’re feeling more yourself.”
The walk back to the suite passed in companionable silence, both of us lost in our own thoughts. Thomas maintaine respectful distance beside me, close enough to offer support if needed but carefully not touching me- -a detail I appreciated more than I could express.
When we reached my door, he paused. “Will you be alright? You still look a bit pale.”
“I’m fine,” I assured him. Honestly, seeing Kyle had left me feeling shaky and off–balance. “Just tired. Nothing a quick nap won’t fix.”

He nodded, seemingly satisfied with my answer. “I have meetings or the rest of the afternoon, but I’ll have my phone if you need anything.”
Thank you, Thomas. For everything.”
A small smile touched the corners of his mouth. “My pleasure, Mia”
As I entered the suite, I was relieved to find it empty. No calls or texts from Scarlett also. Scarlett must still be out on her ” shopping reconnaissance” mission.
I think it’s good. Because Scarlett, once she finds out what just happened, she definitely won’t be enjoying her shopping trip anymore.
I needed time to process the encounter with Kyle.
I kicked off my shoes and padded to the bedroom, changing out of the spa outfit into something more comfortable. One loose leggings and one of my oversized sweaters, perfect for the nap. But as I lay on the bed, staring at the ornate ceiling, sleep refused to come.
Kyle’s face kept appearing in my mind. Thomas claimed we were together, Kyle’s expression had shut down completely afterward. Why should that bother me? Wasn’t this what I wanted?
It this truly what want? To let Kyle believe I’d moved
on,
to leave me alone?
One of the twins kicked sharply. “I’m sorry,” I whispered “ommy’s just confused right now.”
After fifteen minutes of fruitless attempts at napping, I gave up. The suite suddenly felt too luxurious.
I changed again, this time into a comfortable maternity dress and flat shoes suitable for walking. Checking my phone, I saw a text from Scarlett:
Shopping therapy extending into dinner with fashion contacts. Back late. Don’t wait up! Morton joining for business part. BORING. Love you!
Good. She wouldn’t notice if I disappeared for a while.
I grabbed a light jacket. The evenings were getting cooler as autumn settled over Paris. I headed out, choosing the service elevator to avoid any potential encounters in the main lobby. The staff entrance led to a quiet side street, less grand than the hotel’s main façade but perfect for slipping away unnoticed.
Paris in early evening held a special magic. The golden hour light bathed the limestone buildings in a warm glow, softening edges and casting long shadows that transformed ordinary streets into something from a dream. I walked slowly, with no particular destination in mind, simply soaking in the atmosphere of the city.
A small flower stand caught my eye, its buckets overflowing with late–season blooms. On impulse, I stepped closer, drawn to a simple bouquet of white daisies and lavender.
“Pour vous, madame?” the elderly vendor asked, his weathered face creasing in a kind smile.
