Chapter 125 Indecision
Mia’s POV
Kyle nodded, seemingly unsurprised by my response. “I understand.”
I looked into his grey eyes. There was a small reflection of me there Could I really consider him only a father to my boys?
He handed me the flowers. After a moment’s hesitation, 1 took it, our fingers brushing in the exchange. The brief contact sent an unwanted jolt of awareness through me.
“Thank you,” I managed.
He just nodded.
We’d reached the hotel’s side entrance, the discreet door I’d slipped out through earlier. Kyle stopped a respectful distance away, making no move to follow me inside.
“Goodnight, Mia,” he said softly. “Take care of yourself. And them.”
“Goodnight, Kyle.”
As I entered the hotel and made my way back to the suite, my mind was a whirlwind of conflicting thoughts and emotions. The pendant seemed to burn in my pocket, a tangible reminder of the past.
I wanted to end it, but Kyle wasn’t going to let that happen. I was a lost sailor, and he had the song of a siren. Was he trying to lead me into a new trap? Letting my guard down, and breaking my heart again. Our connection seems like this pendant that refused to be severed despite my best efforts.
The suite was still empty when I returned, Scarlett’s shopping expedition apparently extending into the evening as promised. I was grateful for the solitude.
I shed my clothes and stepped into the shower, letting the hot water wash away the physical and emotional residue of the day. As the steam filled the luxurious bathroom, I allow myself all sorts of silly thoughts.
I think Kyle was gradually trying to wear down everything I’ve put in place. Could I do that? Could I set aside my own hurt and anger to allow him access to them? And if I did, could I maintain the emotional distance to protect myself from falling back into old patterns, from being hurt again?
The twins moved beneath my palm as I dried off, their movements stronger now. I have to admit, they were real people now, just concepts. They have the right to know who their father is.

I pulled on my nightgown and settled into bed. Paris is always with its romantic golden light and unexpected encounters. I placed the pendant on my nightstand. I can’t help thinking of Kyle’s face when he felt his son kick for the first time. It is joy and reverence. Can I trust that look? He maybe also looking forward to our babies. But I’m not sure if it’s because of his paranoia about childhood trauma.
As I drifted off, I saw the pendant caught a glint of moonlight through the window, casting a small, perfect reflection on the ceiling above me. Like a tiny star in the darkness. How amazing. After all these years, it still shines as I remember.
I woke to the sound of Scarlett’s excited voice in the suite’s living room, followed by the deeper tones of what sounded like Morton responding. Sunlight streamed through a gap in the curtains, indicating I’d slept far later than I’d intended. The bedside clock confirmed it. It’s nearly ten in the morning.
Scarlett’s laughter drifted through the door. I emerged, dressed in a comfortable maxi dress that accommodated my growing bump while still looking appropriate for a day of sightseeing.
“Good morning, sleeping beauty,” she greeted, her casual tone belied by the intensity of her gaze. “Coffee? Decaf for you. I already ordered.”
“Thanks, Scar” I managed. Gas nudged at my mind. I missed his comforting presence somehow.

Morton nodded a polite greeting before tactfully excusing himself to take a business call, leaving teen indon moment the door closed behind him, she pounced
“Okay, spill. Thomas told me he ran into Kyle at the hotel spa café yesterday, but he was sospiciously vague on the details. And then you disappeared all evening? What happened?”
I took a deep breath, trying to organize my thoughts. “It’s… complicated.”
“I know even if you don’t say it.” She moved to sit beside me, her expression softening “But I’m worried about you. Thomas said you looked pretty shaken after the café thing.”
“I was,” I admitted, accepting the decaf latte a hotel attendant brought in. “Seeing Kyle here, in Paris of all places it wa unexpected.”
“He must be following you.” Scarlett thought the same as I did.
“He claims he was already scheduled to be here for business,” I said, though I couldn’t keep the doubt from my voice. “The Legrand acquisition, apparently.”
Scarlett’s perfectly shaped eyebrows rose. “And you believe that?”
“I don’t know what to believe anymore.” I stared into my coffee, watching the swirl of cream as I stirred. “But after the café, I went for a walk to clear my head, and-”
“Alone? Mia! You promised no wandering off by yourself!”
“Sorry Scar. But I did bring my phone. AndI needed space to think,” I explained. There was worry in Scarlett’s eyes. I put my arm around her a little sheepishly.
“Mmhmm. You have to make sure you don’t do it again.” Her skepticism was palpable. “What happened after that?”
I winced. Put like that, it did sound ridiculous. “In a park near the hotel I met Kyle again. He said he saw me from his meeting room window.”
“He definitely was following you” Scarlett noted dryly.
I hesitated, “We talked,” I said finally. “About the babies.”
“And? He’d better not have said anything about fighting for custody.”
