Myles's enthusiasm made Tom feel awkward and uneasy. It was his first time to come to the Paynes. It was strange that Myles and others were so hospitable to him. They were not pretending but were genuinely passionate about him.
Tom had been used to being ridiculed all these years. It was the first time he had been warmly treated. He was not used to it.
After they entered the room, they finally restrained themselves.
"Tom, sit here for a while. I'll call my father over." Myles greeted with a smile.
Tom nodded and agreed.
Caroline and the Paynes left for a moment and promised to come back soon.
After finding a chance to speak, Tom asked Master Chou in a low voice, "Chou, didn't you say that Hawthorne wanted to see me and be a peacemaker? It doesn't seem so. What's going on?"
Master Chou rolled his eyes and said, "You must have misunderstood. I didn't say that Hawthorne asked you to dinner as a peacemaker."
Tom paused and recalled that Chou had never said that before. It was just that people would think that way. After all, he had a grudge against the North Sky Association. It was natural that Hawthorne made an appointment to meet him to be a peacemaker.
Now Tom immediately realized that Chou had set him up again! Hawthorne made an appointment with him for another purpose.
Master Chou deliberately didn't look him in the eye. It was obviously a sign of guilt, but Tom was so angry that he gnashed his teeth.
At this time, there was a sound of footsteps coming from the stairs. Tom looked up and saw three people coming down the stairs. They were all young people in their twenties and thirties.
They also saw Tom sitting in the living room and frowned slightly.
"Who are these two country bumpkins? Why did they come to our house?"
"I don't know. I haven't seen them before. Maybe they're here to fix something."
"Really? How dare those repairmen to come into our house and make the floor dirty."
"That's my regular seat! How shall I sit down in the future? No! I have to kick these two country bumpkins out." One of the young men, who was fair and clean, said angrily and walked over quickly.
Tom had heard their conversation long ago and frowned. Those three young people were unruly, lazy, and rebellious rich second generation. They relied on their good family background and developed a very undesirable character since they were young. They were self-centered. When they saw anything unpleasant, they would go out of control. They had no upbringing and never cared about other people's feelings.
Tom hated dealing with such people. He thought that since Myles and the others were so enthusiastic, he wouldn't encounter such annoying people. However, he did.
However, he was used to that.
"Hey, you two country bumpkins. Who let you in? Get out of here!" The young man came over and scolded rudely. His attitude was terrible.
Tom was at least a man with a good reputation. He was furious after being scolded like that. His face immediately darkened. "First of all, we're not country bumpkins. Hawthorne invited us here. Second, you'd better show me some respect when you speak."
