Chase POV
I lay sprawled on Lottie's bed, staring at the ceiling. The weight of the past weeks pressed down on me like a heavy fog, obscuring any hope of clarity. The deal with Astaroth loomed over everything, a constant reminder of our past mistakes. Lottie, my sister, my everything she carried were the light that pierced through that fog. She was fearless, strong, and fiercely loyal. The pups she carried only amplified my determination to protect her.
I heard the faint sound of the front door creaking open. My ears perked up, and my wolf, Thor, snickered in the back of my mind.
"You know she'll drive, baby, right?" he laughed, the sound echoing in my head.
"Shut up, Thor," I muttered, groaning as I dramatically threw my hands down on the bed. "She knows not to touch baby." I added, chewing my gums.
"Didn't you just royally piss her off?" He asked, his voice filled with entertainment. "But yeah, you are totally right. She won't drive, baby. Just smash the fucking thing or key it." His words had me sitting up as fear settled at the bottom of my spine.
"Fuck." I yapped.
"And what better excuse for a baby to get totalled than her running after Knox, that piss-poor excuse of a mate..again. She never gives up on him, no matter how many times he disappointed her." Thor added, making me smile, because it frustrated me to no end, but I couldn't help but admire her loyalty.
"Her mistake." I muttered, trying to sound like I didn't care.
"Yep, given the fight he got in and the number of drunken creatures she is about to go head-on with to protect that leech who is probably in no fit state to protect her."
"Fuck sake." I barked as I reluctantly dragged myself out of bed, rushing to catch up with her.
"Good choice." Thor laughed, but by the time I reached the front door, she was already adjusting the driver's seat in MY car. She looked up, spotting me just as she slammed the door shut, none too fucking gently either.
"OI!" I yelled as gravel flicked up, hitting the paintwork and making me scream in frustration.
"If you weren't pregnant, I would..."
"What? I can't hear you?" She shouted from the car, a smirk on her lips as I, half-dressed and barefoot, stormed over to the car, yanking the door open.
"Kick your ass." I finished glaring at my defiant yet beautiful sister. "You are not driving my baby," I grunted, motioning for her to get out. She crossed her arms defiantly, letting me know she was in this for the long haul.
"I'm not getting out, Chase. Knox needs me." I rolled my eyes and my head on my neck, contemplating, not for the first time, if just killing the cunt would be easier on us all.
"No." Thor growled protectively. "She would be broken and would hate us."
"If she found it, it was us." I offered smugly.
"I will tell her!" Thor demanded his loyalty to our sister just as fierce as my own.
"Knox needs a swift kick in the ass, not your help," I snapped back at my sister, who was staring at me, her frustration bubbling over. "Lottie, you're pregnant. You shouldn't be running after him every time he screws up." Her eyes softened for a moment, but the determination in them remained.
