They Beg For My Return (Camila Jackson) novel Chapter 158

By the time Giovani finally fell asleep, it was already four in the morning. Less than three hours later, the sharp ringtone of his phone woke him up.

Still halfasleep, Giovani fumbled for his phone and answered, his voice hoarse and heavy with exhaustion, Hello?

Turner’s steady voice came through the line. “Mr. Campbell, there’s an important project in Eastville that requires your personal attention today. I’ll swing by to pick you up shortly.

Alright, Giovani replied briefly, letting out a deep breath as he tried to gather himself.

Turner, ever observant, picked up on the unusual weakness in Giovani’s tone. Mr. Campbell, are you feeling okay?he asked, his concern evident.

I’m fine,Giovani said curtly before ending the call. He tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness hit him, and his vision briefly went dark from low blood sugar.

Giovani’s lips twitched slightly as he clenched his teeth, silently swearing to himself, Never again will I touch takeout. Never.

After freshening up, Giovani stepped out of his room in a sleek black suit. The moment he opened the door, the familiar scent of parsley hit him, and his heart sank. This is bad,he thought.

Camila greeted him with her usual gentle smile. Mr. Campbell, you’re up! Perfect timing. I made some meatball soup. Come down and have some.

Giovani’s gaze landed on the bowl of meatball soup sitting on the dining table.

Maybe the fact that he ate quickly yesterday made Camila think he hadn’t eaten enough, because today’s portion was even bigger than yesterday’s.

Camila’s smile deepened. You woke up early today, Mr. Campbell. There’s no need to rush out like yesterday. You can take your time eating. If it’s not enough, there’s more in the kitchen.”

Giovani’s lips twitched again involuntarily.

He wanted to tell her about his allergy to parsley, but seeing the hopeful look in her eyes, he couldn’t bring himself to ruin her effort.

It’s just an allergy, he thought to himself. Worst case, I’ll take some medicine later.

Even so, his steps toward the dining table were hesitant. Just as he was about to sit down, the doorbell rang.

Giovani’s eyes lit up. Turner must be here already, he thought, relieved.

He quickly formulated a plan. He could use work as an excuse to take the soup with him, hand it off to Turner in the car, and ensure Camila’s kind gesture wouldn’t go to waste.

With that thought, he stood up and said, I’ll get the door.

Camila couldn’t hear the doorbell, but she quickly caught on to Giovani’s meaning. Mr. Campbell, you eat first. I’ll get the door, she said, hurrying over to open it.

Giovani stayed seated at the dining table, his fork untouched. His eyes were glued to the doorway as he eagerly awaited Turner’s arrival.

But the moment he saw who it was, his anticipation crumbled. Standing at the door wasn’t Turner. It was Lucy.

As soon as Camila opened the door, Lucy bounced in like an excited bird, throwing her arms around Camila in a big hug.Camila, I missed you so much!she exclaimed, burying her face in Camila’s neck and taking a deep breath. You smell amazing!

Giovani felt jealous at the sight.

Camila blinked in surprise. It’s not Sunday, Lucy. What brings you here today?

Lucy let go of her, and her face lit up with a cheerful smile. I don’t have any classes this morning, so I thought I’d come see you.

How about this? Whenever I don’t have classes, I’ll come visit you. Deal?Lucy’s playful and carefree demeanor made her seem like a child without a care in the world.

Yet, as Lucy looked at Camila, a flicker of conc Successfully unlocked! ough her eyes. She just wanted to make her

happy.

Camila’s expression softened as she gently patted Lucy’s head, as if comforting a child. Of course! I’d love to see you every day.”

Camila considered Lucy to be so pure and innocent that it was impossible not to adore her. Just being around Lucy lifted

her spirits.

Taking Lucy’s hand, Camila led her inside. Lucy, have a seat. There’s still some meatball soup in the pot. I’ll get you a bowl Lucy grinned mischievously. Camila, you’re so good to me. If I were a guy, I’d totally marry you!

Camila rolled her eyes at her. Stop joking around.

Lucy stuck out her tongue playfully.

Their easy and affectionate interaction made Giovani’s really envious.

As Lucy passed by Giovani, she gave him a quick nod in greeting before happily trailing behind Camila into the kitchen.

From the kitchen, Camila’s voice floated out. Why are you following me here?

Lucy’s playful response came immediately. I finally got to see you! Don’t even think about shaking me off!

Camila burst out laughing at Lucy’s antics, her laughter echoing through the kitchen. The two chatted and joked, leaving Giovani feeling like an outsider.

Turner stepped inside and asked, Boss, should we head out now?

Lucy, holding a bowl and about to serve the soup, froze in place as the voice reached her ears. That voice was so familiar. She turned toward the dining area and saw a man in a sharp silvergray suit and goldrimmed glasses. He had a polished, handsome look. The moment she saw him, her eyes widened in shock.

Wait. Isn’t that the guy who gave me 300 thousand dollars? Isn’t he buddies with those two scumbags, Michael and Harry? What’s he doing here at the Campbell residence, calling Mr. Campbell boss?Lucy thought, her mind spinning. Suddenly, as if sensing something, Turner turned his head toward the kitchen.

Startled, Lucy quickly turned away, her entire body stiffening.

Turner’s gaze landed on Lucy, his eyes narrowing slightly as if in thought. This is?He felt her back looked so familiar.
