Patricia’s words were brutal. Most people would break under that kind of abuse, but not Camila. After years of enduring beatings and insults, she’d built up a rock–solid resistance to such cruelty.
She sat in the iron cage and stared at Patricia, her expression as calm as still water. To her, Patricia was nothing more than a clown performing a pitiful
act.
Camila’s indifference just made Patricia even angrier. Furious, Patricia started stomping and cursing.
Camila simply watched, not making a sound.
Patricia’s tirade dragged on for over ten minutes. Only when her throat went dry did she stop.
Camila’s lips curled into a mocking. “Done? Good. Now it’s my turn. Have you already forgotten what happened six months ago when you crossed me? Why don’t you take a guess–what will Giovani do when he finds out how you’ve been treating me?”
Patricia’s face was contorted with rage. She lunged at Camila, her eyes blazing. “You and Lucy ruined my life. I’ve got nothing left to lose, and if I’m going down, I’m taking you with me.
“I can’t wait to see Giovani’s face when he finds out I’ve tortured you to death. I bet his expression will be impressive when he sees your corpse,” Patricia said, laughing like a lunatic.
Camila narrowed her eyes slightly. “I’m not going to live much longer anyway. But you have decades left. If I can take you down with my life, it’s worth it.”
Patricia exploded with rage, pounding on the iron bars like a madwoman. “You bitch! I’ll kill you!”
Camila sat calmly in the cage, watching Patricia’s crazed outburst. ‘Death doesn’t scare me. It’s my way out. My revenge is done, and this broken body- I’ve long stopped caring about it.‘
In a sudden burst of madness, Patricia grabbed the fruit knife from the coffee table and lunged at Camila.
Owen had been watching Patricia’s tirade against Camila. But when he saw Patricia about to stab Camila, he couldn’t stay silent anymore.
“Patricia, have you lost your mind?” he shouted. “You said you’d help me win over Camila while you went after Giovani. Now that Camila’s mine, shouldn’t you be focusing on Giovani?”
Patricia turned and looked at Owen like he was an idiot. “Did you seriously buy into all that crap? I just said that was to get you to spill everything about
that wretched Camila.
“Otherwise, how would I have known that one of her kidneys is in Agnes? How would I have known that she threw Agnes into the village to be ruined as
revenge?
“And how else would I have tracked her down, waited for her to reclaim her kidney, and snatched her away when her body was at its weakest?”
Owen’s face darkened, his eyes wide in disbelief, “You used me?”
Patricia’s face stayed cold, her voice dripping with mockery. “Didn’t you use Camila back in college? When it comes to manipulation, you’re the real expert. You claim to love her, but you only care about yourself. Guys like you are nothing but garbage.”
Owen trembled with rage. He raised his hand, intending to slap her hard.
But Patricia nimbly dodged his slap and, in one swift motion, slapped Owen right across the face.”
The slap was so forceful that it snapped Owen’s head to the side and left his ears ringing.
Patricia shook her hand as if to brush off the sting. “Don’t act like you’re some kind of hero. We’re stuck in this mess together, and even if you try to help Camila, she won’t give you the time of day.”

Owen turned Camila, only to see her eyes filled with hatred. It felt like an invisible hand had grabbed his heart and was squeezing it, making it ache with every beat.
His eyes brimmed with regret and longing as he begged, “Camila, I did it because I love you too much. I couldn’t let you go. Please, don’t hate me. I swear, if you stay with me, I’ll never hurt you again.”
“Drop the act,” Camila sneered, her tone dripping with mockery.
Her words hit a nerve. Owen pushed his wheelchair closer to the cage, his teeth clenched. “Camila, what the hell do you want? Look at me now–crippled
and pathetic–all because of you.
“Don’t think I don’t know the truth. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have ended up like this. It must have been Giovani who did this to me.
“I lost my legs because of you, and I never once blamed you. But you? Five years in prison–so what? You’re still standing, no missing limbs, no permanent damage.
“Even if I did misunderstand you and got you sent to prison, I’ve paid for my mistakes with my legs.
“Back in the orphanage, we were so close, and you were so kind and innocent. Why have you turned into such a bitter, unforgiving person? Do you even
realize how unbearable you are now?”
Finally, Owen let out all the resentment he’d been holding in.
