Lila shifted slightly but didn't entirely pull her body away.
Just before Kieran opened his eyes, she quickly shut hers, pretending to be asleep.
She subtly adjusted her position, trying to make it seem like her earlier movement had been unintentional.
She could feel that Kieran had woken up, and she expected him to release her immediately.
After all, Kieran was such a reserved and disciplined man—he surely wouldn't tolerate this kind of close contact with the opposite sex.
But the arm around her waist tightened before she could finish her thought. At the same time, he shifted slightly, settling into a more comfortable position, pulling them even closer.
Lila was completely confused.
Only she dared to open her eyes when his breathing finally settled into a steady rhythm.
She found herself pressed tightly against his chest, feeling his warmth and steady heartbeat.
It was slower than it had been during the day.
…
When Lila woke up the next morning, she saw a soft, warm blanket covering her.
For a moment, she couldn't process what she was seeing.
Turning her head to the side, she realized the bed was empty, and Kieran was already gone.
It felt like the closeness they had shared the previous night had been nothing more than a dream.
She stared at the ceiling silently for a while, then slowly started to wake up.
After freshening up, she headed downstairs, where Kieran was already sitting in the living room.
Carol came out of the kitchen with a bowl of porridge, smiling warmly. "Mr. Morgan was worried it might get cold, so he had me keep it warm for you. It's at the perfect temperature now."
"Thank you," Lila said with a polite smile.
Kieran asked gently, "Did you sleep well?"
"…Yes," Lila replied, feeling a bit perplexed.
Carol seemed to pick up on the subtle tension, but she didn't linger.
It wasn't her place to eavesdrop on the family's conversation, so she turned and worked on other tasks.
After breakfast, both prepared to head to work, and Kieran offered to drive her.
