If this had been in the past, Kieran would have been genuinely happy. But now, he didn't feel any particular joy.
He wished that the woman in his arms could still be as fearless as before.
That she would never have to experience hesitation or confusion.
Kieran turned around and pulled her into his embrace, gently patting her back.
If her memories couldn't return for now, then he would have to find another way to help her rebuild her sense of security.
…
On the way back from dropping Teddy off, Amelia glanced at him from the corner of her eye.
"Still haven't figured it out?"
Teddy looked at her in confusion. "Figured out what?"
Amelia smiled. "You don't have to keep pretending to be fine in front of me. When you saw Soren today, the sadness in your eyes was practically tangible."
"Amelia, did you have to be so blunt?" He let out a helpless laugh.
"I'm not trying to rub salt in your wounds. I just want to tell you—if you really like her, then go for it."
Amelia thought for a moment before adding, "If you don't do anything, you'll definitely regret it."
Teddy's expression turned both bitter and conflicted. He scratched his head.
"That day while hiking… Jamie already made her choice."
There was no need for him to make a fool of himself.
He didn't say the last part aloud, but Amelia understood it anyway.
"Jamie has always been good to you. To be honest, before Soren showed up, I really thought that if we just waited a little longer, the two of you would end up together.
"But ever since he came back, her attitude has completely changed. Have you never wondered why?"
Teddy scratched his head again. "Of course I have! I've thought about it a lot!"
To prove how seriously he had considered it, his voice even rose slightly.
