The taxi arrived at Chuck's Private Hospital, and the taxi driver got out of the car to get some help. Ella was groggy, slipping in and out of consciousness. When she opened her eyes, she was lying on a gurney, being wheeled into the hospital. Ella grabbed the nurse's hand, "Please call Chuck for me..." She knew he was the one person that she could trust at this crucial moment.
The nurse ignored her request and proceeded to push the gurney towards the emergency ward.
"Please tell Chuck, It's Ella. Please. He'll know who it is." Ella felt like she was slipping and her heart was pounding faster. She almost wanted to take off her clothes since she was feeling very hot all of a sudden.
An attending physician recognised Ella, and dialed Chuck's phone number.
At that moment, Chuck was resting in his office because he had just finished a 7-hour operation.
When he heard that Ella was in the hospital, he went downstairs quickly.
In the emergency ward on the first floor, Ella was twisting and turning on the hospital bed, in pain.
Chuck immediately detected that there was something wrong. "Take her to an examination room, pronto." He tried to call Samuel but still couldn't get through. He ordered a nurse to keep calling the number until she could speak to the owner. He rushed to Ella, to give her a check-up.
Ten minutes later.
The nurse dialed Samuel's phone number dozens of times but couldn't get through. She came into the examination room, "Sir, there's still no answer." "Keep trying until there is." Chuck spoke softly, watching as Ella slept. When he had walked into the examination room, Ella was in distress and looked like a mad woman. He had to ask several nurses to hold her and give her an injection. Once he was able to, Ella was changed into a hospital gown.
Chuck wasn't entirely sure what had occurred. He looked at her hospital chat, trying to decipher what had made her react the way she did. Apart from the fever she had, nothing pointed to her state. He shook his head in confusion.
"Nurse, take some of her blood. We need to get some tests done. I don't want to write down the cause of this outburst as psychological, until we rule out that her physical health didn't cause this."
The nurse nodded, retrieved some blood samples and took them to the lab. "Sir, there's been an answer on the phone." The nurse who was tasked to call Samuel's phone, came in and informed him.
Samuel had just got off the plane, when he saw the many missed calls from Chuck's private hospital. Just then another call came in from the same number. "Hello." He answered hurriedly. "Oh... hi. Hold for Sir Chuck." the voice on the other end sounded relieved.
"Hello, Samuel. It's Chuck. It's about Ella, she's had an accident. Come to my hospital..." And the phone hang up. Chuck knew that Samuel would be in shortly.
Samuel originally planned to arrive a day later, but something told him to come back earlier. He wanted to surprise Ella. From their video calls, he caught glimpses of Ella's discomfort living at the old house and how sad she felt. Although she was an expert at feigning happiness, Samuel could always read her. So he dealt with all the cases within the shortest time and flew back to C Country without any stop.
And it was just as well that he came early. He couldn't wait for the car that was assigned to pick him up, so
He got a taxi to take him to the hospital immediately.
When she saw Samuel leaving in a hurry, Catherine was elated. She turned on her cellphone and contacted several people secretly.
At the hospital.
Samuel rushed into the ward. Chuck was conversing with a nurse, holding the toxicology report in one hand. He had a solemn expression on his face, which turned into relief when he saw Samuel. "She is in here." Chuck pointed to the room infront of him. Ella was in a coma. Samuel threw the briefcase to the coach and rushed to her bedside.
Ella's hair was wet and her face looked pale with bruises at the corner of her mouth.
Samuel had a bad feeling. He was trembling with fear and anger.
Who had done this to her?
Her shallow breathes comforted him, that she was alive. In her delirium, she kept on muttering "Sum.. Stop... Yang... Save them." The words were very faint, and Samuel had to crouch closer to hear them.
This confused him. To add onto this, she had a hickey on her neck.
He banished the idea that was popping in his head concerning what had happened to her.
His eyes turned red. He turned and saw Chuck standing by the door. "What happened to her?"
Chuck walked towards them and responded, "According to the toxicology report, it appears that Ella was drugged with chloroform as well as injected with another sedative to keep her immobile... "
Chuck stopped speaking when he saw the expression on Samuel's expression.
Samuel's hands clinched the quilt tightly, his head congested with thoughts and emotions. He fought back tears in an attempt to maintain composure.
"She was given a high dosage which caused her fever and demented state when she came in."
"Demented?" Samuel asked with a hoarse voice.
"Yes. She was very restless. We had to give her a sedative to calm her down. However, we are not sure how she will react when she wakes up. We suggest that you stay around, just so that she can see a familiar face when she comes too." "I'm not going anywhere." Samuel said in a matter-of-factly, sort of way. He held her hand as the room fell into silence.
Samuel didn't know when Chuck left.
