“How dare you threaten me with your death again!” he bellowed.

It was the first time he had shouted at me. He even knocked over a chair in his anger. “Ariana, if this happens again, I swear the one who dies will be you!”

Wendy was terrified. Even after Nicholas had left, she didn’t dare to breathe too loudly. After a while, she said to me, “Mr. Hawk cares about you. When you were unconscious-”

His outburst was uncalled for, and he got angry for no reason at all. In the four years of our marriage, he had never raised his
