Nicholas still had a bit of conscience left. He knew he was in the wrong, so he didn't argue when I told him to leave again.
He silently got dressed, packing all of his belongings into the bag. As the door closed behind him, a barely noticeable sigh lingered in the air, unable to fade away.
I went back to my room and threw out all the things on the bed, including the towel he had used in the bathroom. I then grabbed some perfume and sprayed every corner of the room.
The next morning, I woke up groggy, feeling as if I hadn't really slept at all.
Suddenly, my phone rang. It was Yasmine, her voice full of amusement. "What's Nicholas up to now?"
"What happened?" I asked lazily, switching to speakerphone while holding my toothbrush in one hand and a cup in the other.
"Nicholas is too trendy. He's gone viral!' Yasmine's voice was excited. "He did an explicit photoshoot, nearly naked except for the important parts! His official account posted a nine-grid photo collage—each one a masterpiece!"
"What? Say that again." I even wondered if I was still half-asleep. I didn't consider at all that what Yasmine said might be true.
"Don't doubt your ears! I thought I was blind when I saw it too! Nicholas reposted it on his personal account, saying, 'We are born naked, it's your mind that's filthy!'"
For some reason, his words from last night about giving me an explanation replayed in my head. Was this his idea of making it right?
"Hello? Ari, are you still there?"
"Yeah, I'm here…" I was a little dazed.
"So what do you think happened to him? Is his illness still acting up? Did something trigger him?"
Nicholas' condition probably did leave some aftereffects. Emotional issues were tough to fully cure and required long-term medication and therapy.
