"Don't worry, Izabella. I will take good care of your child. I won't let him be disabled, like having a broken arm or a limp leg. I'll let him live well, just like you, to live a life worse than death."
Brett's face stiffened suddenly upon hearing this recording.
Kaley was still holding onto Brett's arm, but her grip had loosened. A chill from the depths of her heart spread to every corner of her body.
"It's not what it seems, Brett."
After a while, Brett lowered his head to look at her, his eyes cold and his face without a trace of a smile. The oppressive atmosphere he exuded made Kaley feel uneasy.
Kaley knew deep down that she was in big trouble.
"What is it supposed to be, then?" Brett asked with a sneer. He couldn't believe Kaley would say such malicious things to Izabella after he left.
He stared at her for a long time, and then said, "Kaley."
Kaley suddenly let go of his arm, unable to help but step back, looking at the ferocious expression that gradually emerged on Brett's face, and she was terrified, sweating all over.
She was scared of this man she had known for over a decade.
Amelia quietly watched the scene unfold, realizing that there was no need to play any more of the video.
"Kaley, I'm giving you a chance to explain."
Kaley's mind went blank, and tears streamed down her face before she could even speak. She pleaded, "The things I said to Izabella weren't really what I thought. I was just jealous that she took you away from me for so many years. I never meant any harm. You know I'm not usually like this, Brett."
Amelia held her phone, sneering, "So you said those things intentionally to provoke Izabella and then lied that she wanted to kill you?"
"Shut up!" Kaley cried, tears continuing to flow.
